Here the men of the WOOD saw the physical re- mains of a culture whose intellectual remains have so profoundly affected every century since-including the Twentieth. Here, twenty-five hundred years ago, rose the Parthenon and the temples familiar to Socrates, Plato, Aristotle, and other Greeks whose wisdom has outlasted the magniiicent physical structures of their times.
