Il if WW 'I 'P 51' ' A-iww WW' MY FAIR, LADY Dear Members of the Classes of 1959, The theme you selected for your yearbook startled the faculty at first. Had we cultivated a stage-struck generation? I-lad the Traveling Players, the varsity play, or the senior show infected the yearbook staff? On the other hand, possibly your imaginations had been fired by the famous speech in As You Like It or by Thomas I-leywood's less familiar lines: The world's a theatre, the earth a stage Which God and Nature do with actors fill. poets that the world is a stage on which If you have concluded with the we play various parts, we urge you to play the parts which fall to you in life to the very best of your ability. Put your energies and your souls into the characters lines and lackadaisically going through you portray. Half-heartedly reading prescribed motions bring scant results. Wliether you find yourselves cast in stellar roles or in bit parts, portray those roles with energy and enthusiasm. VVhile everyone cannot be a star playing to the plauclits of multitudes, even the player with merely a walk-on part can enact the role with such integrity that critics appreciate the performance and, more important, that the player himself can know the satisfaction of having done an honest and thorough job. Wlicn you have achieved some success in your chosen work-whether it be in the world of the theatre like Taft's Stanley Kubrick and Eydie Gorme or in any other fields-we hope that you will keep us at school informed of your progress so that we may applaud from the side-lines and glory in your accom- plishments. Yours with all good wislzes, fd.
