A Time to Li e It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of seniors, it was the age of freshmen, it was the epoch of self confidence, it was the epoch of fear, it was the season of fall, it was the season of school,we had everything before us, we had nothing before us, and we were all going straight to Taft. We were the freshmen filled with anxiety, hope, bewilderment, and the all-consuming thought that we too would soon achieve the heights the seniors had at- tained. Before we realized it, we were the ones who set the example. We were the ones judged most criti- cally. We were the ones wearing hats laden with but- tons and pins, bearing them as kings and queens bear their crowns. There were pride and happiness, sad- ness and anticipation of the future, the future that would be our lives. We realize now more than ever before how big a part time plays in our lives. The four years have passed so quickly. They were years mingled with joys and sadness. They were the years in which we gained the maturity we now possess. They were the years that brought us closer and closer to our goal. We closed our eyes for a moment, and our senior year had flown by. The prom was over. Our hats were put away never to be worn again. We were carrying away with us a great feeling of pride and accomplish- ment. Someday we would look back upon these four years knowing that they would always be in our mem- ory, but we could never relive them. We are young, though. We have a world to live in, explore, and conquer. We are full of hope and de- sire and are on the pathway to success. We know we will not fail. HARRIET CERSHON MARIAN SACKS

Robert B. Brodie You were born before the turn of the century, and received your educa- tion in the New York City public schools, the College of the City of New York and New York University. After graduation from City College, where you followed the mechanical and scientific courses, you accepted a teaching position and found that you enjoyed the work because of your love for children. Thus began your interest in the schools and in social service work. You were destined to see and institute many innovations at P.S. 62, in Man- hattan, which grew from an intermediate school to a prevocational school and later to a junior high school. Then, under your guidance as principal, it developed into the first junior-senior high school, finally to become the Seward Park High School. Your interests were by no means one-sided. Your experience in college baseball, basketball and soccer helped you to qualify to coach athletics, and now your interest in the outdoors is transferred to travel, golf and fishing. At Seward Park you established a clinic for the care of the physically handi- capped within the school, and you founded a psychiatric guidance clinic to aid the students to adjust themselves to life. Your best efforts were directed to make the school the center for communal work. You initiated weekend camping to give children who had never been outside the cityis limits an opportunity to enjoy the outdoors. You became a director and then chairman of the Board of Directors of Surprise Lake Camp, and you were one of the organizers of the East Side Vacation Camp Association. You are a trustee of the Fed- eration of Jewish Philanthropies and the Educational Alliance. You organized and cooperated with the Parents Association of Taft High School, and aided in the organization of the Taft Youth and Adult Center. Above all, you made Taft a happy school with high ideals, respected in the com- munity, and beloved by its students. The students of Taft would like to express to you their appreciation for all you have given them. V, Yes, Mr. Brodie. This ls Your Life! lt has been a good and fruitful one thus far. For the future, we would like to leave our sincere wishes for a long and happy life. Sheila Diamant Eden Force THIS IS YUUR LIFE
