Time to Retire Mrs. Mary G. Ascher retired last October, com- pleting a successful career that started when she be- gan teaching at Thomas Jefferson High School. Upon ' graduation from the City College of New York where she majored in Business Administration, Mrs. Ascher received her Masters degree in Education from New York University. She also took courses in guidance at Columbia University. Mrs. Ascher came to Taft in September, 1946, after serving as acting Administrative Assistant at Colum- bus for one and a half years. She sums up her years here when she says, I will always have a soft spot in my heart for Taft. It gives me a personal satisfaction to know that I have been able to help many students when they came to me in need of guidance. Dear Graduates: The happier the time, the more quickly it passes. You of the graduating classes of January 1954 and June 1954 are well aware of this fact, for the speed of your years at Taft can undoubtedly he measured by the rate of your progress in your studies and the degree of pleasure you have found in your participation in the many extra-curricular activities offered here. Time is relative. ln the years ahead you will look back upon your school days at Taft as hut one of many stages in your growth. As I take leave of this group of gradu- ates, l find myself sharing the feeling of sadness that is part of any farewell, and, with you, l say, Alas, Time stays, we go. Baonnz Principal Wllttll work is done and shadows fall, we can find Miss Shapiro relaxing at home with a good book or playing some of her favorite melodies upon the piano. Being a woman of diversified interests, she also enjoys a good game of golf, although she hasn7t had much time for it of late. At concerts and the theater. Miss Shapiro, along with many others, loses herself in the delights of a make-believe world. ln her dealings with high school boys and girls, Miss Shapiro has shown an understanding of teen- agers. Her philosophy is one which can apply to each and every one of us. We are the masters of our fates. We can get out of something only what we put into it, no more, and no lesslv Mr. Jason, a man who is truly interested in the field of education, spends some of his spare time working with various educational organizations. He is also active in several charities, one of them being the U. J. A. His message to the students is short and to the point. If we leave things half done to go on to some- thing else, in the end we have accomplished noth- ing! There,s a time for big things, a time for small things, a time for some things, and a time for all thingsf' Now that our four years at Taft are draw- ing to a close, we feel that this is the time to express our gratitude to you, Mr. Jason, for the wonderful help and guidance that you have given to us all.
