Robert B. Brodie You were born before the turn of the century, and received your educa- tion in the New York City public schools, the College of the City of New York and New York University. After graduation from City College, where you followed the mechanical and scientific courses, you accepted a teaching position and found that you enjoyed the work because of your love for children. Thus began your interest in the schools and in social service work. You were destined to see and institute many innovations at P.S. 62, in Man- hattan, which grew from an intermediate school to a prevocational school and later to a junior high school. Then, under your guidance as principal, it developed into the first junior-senior high school, finally to become the Seward Park High School. Your interests were by no means one-sided. Your experience in college baseball, basketball and soccer helped you to qualify to coach athletics, and now your interest in the outdoors is transferred to travel, golf and fishing. At Seward Park you established a clinic for the care of the physically handi- capped within the school, and you founded a psychiatric guidance clinic to aid the students to adjust themselves to life. Your best efforts were directed to make the school the center for communal work. You initiated weekend camping to give children who had never been outside the cityis limits an opportunity to enjoy the outdoors. You became a director and then chairman of the Board of Directors of Surprise Lake Camp, and you were one of the organizers of the East Side Vacation Camp Association. You are a trustee of the Fed- eration of Jewish Philanthropies and the Educational Alliance. You organized and cooperated with the Parents Association of Taft High School, and aided in the organization of the Taft Youth and Adult Center. Above all, you made Taft a happy school with high ideals, respected in the com- munity, and beloved by its students. The students of Taft would like to express to you their appreciation for all you have given them. V, Yes, Mr. Brodie. This ls Your Life! lt has been a good and fruitful one thus far. Dear Graduates: The happier the time, the more quickly it passes. You of the graduating classes of January 1954 and June 1954 are well aware of this fact, for the speed of your years at Taft can undoubtedly he measured by the rate of your progress in your studies and the degree of pleasure you have found in your participation in the many extra-curricular activities offered here. Time is relative. ln the years ahead you will look back upon your school days at Taft as hut one of many stages in your growth. As I take leave of this group of gradu- ates, l find myself sharing the feeling of sadness that is part of any farewell, and, with you, l say, Alas, Time stays, we go. Baonnz Principal Wllttll work is done and shadows fall, we can find Miss Shapiro relaxing at home with a good book or playing some of her favorite melodies upon the piano. Being a woman of diversified interests, she also enjoys a good game of golf, although she hasn7t had much time for it of late. At concerts and the theater. Miss Shapiro, along with many others, loses herself in the delights of a make-believe world. ln her dealings with high school boys and girls, Miss Shapiro has shown an understanding of teen- agers. Her philosophy is one which can apply to each and every one of us. We are the masters of our fates. We can get out of something only what we put into it, no more, and no lesslv Mr. Jason, a man who is truly interested in the field of education, spends some of his spare time working with various educational organizations. He is also active in several charities, one of them being the U. J. A. His message to the students is short and to the point. If we leave things half done to go on to some- thing else, in the end we have accomplished noth- ing! There,s a time for big things, a time for small things, a time for some things, and a time for all thingsf' Now that our four years at Taft are draw- ing to a close, we feel that this is the time to express our gratitude to you, Mr. Jason, for the wonderful help and guidance that you have given to us all.
