ln the fall, a High School Journalism Day was held at Pierce Junior College for all the Los Angeles City High Schools. The talented members on the staff of Taft's newspaper, The Tribune, received many first place honors for their achievements. There was competition in many different categories, such as planning a layout, newswriting and photography. , ,.'y WINNERS FROM STUDENT CONGRESS: Andrea Palash, Cindy Diamond, Allison Acker, Amy Scharf. At the Student Congress held at Kennedy High School, four of Taft's students earned trophies from the combination of judges' scores and their peers' votes. A Student Congress is conducted in the same way as the U.S. Congress. Up to sixteen different resolutions are brought up during the day to be debated and perhaps adopted. 140 The Taft High School Pep Club con- sists of some of the most spirited people in the school. At their weekly meetings, these people discuss ways to promote spirit at Taft. They 'L also help other clubs and organiza- tions when the extra service is need- ed. The Taft High Booster Club consists of interest- ed members ofthe school community. In the past, they have given academic and teaching aids to the school. Last year, this group built a snack shop by the football field. The club's goal this year is to provide new band uni- forms.
