This year, two courageous girls joined sixty-five guys in Boys' Swimming competition. Taft nearly won the CEE city championship, losing by one point. The BEE was city champions last year, and stands an excellent chance of repeating this year. In Varsity last season, Taft was third in West Valley League competition, however, with such talented swimmers as Cary Languirand, captain, Jack Saich, co-captain, Tom Bensfield, Art Cohen, Alan Cohen, and Mark Yamron, Taft Varsity promises to have a successful 1975 season. In just one year under the leadership of coach Dick Hubbard, the team de- veloped into a power capable of threatening the dominance of Pacific Palisades. The team was led through an ex- cellent season by captains Craig Buck and Kurt Fasmer. Setters Dan Askenaizer and Dave Keitel were among the best in southern California. Next year's team promises to be even better as only one starter, Dan Askenaizer is graduating. The Junior Varsity or Soph- omore team, under the coaching of Steven Glass, out hustled most of their opponents this year. Leading the team were captains Lloyd Talbert and Hunter Anderson, along with Charles Parry and John Encell. Each of these players will make excellent contributions to future varsity teams. 91
