The 1975 Varsity Baseball team began the year with a nucleus of seasoned players. In their first game of the year against the alumni lPictured Oppositel, it was evi- dent that the team had a way to go. As the season pro- gressed, the team developed into a well balanced ball club led by seniors David Aronow, Tim Ferrin, Kelly Paris, Charlie Young, Don Smith, Paul Jannson, Tom Simpson, and Steve Lane. The Junior Varsity Baseball team was not an over- powering threat this year as it won most of its games playing good defense. The superlative pitching of Bill Tayrien, Mark Wolff, Ken Sanders, and Chuck Schwall kept opponents hitting to a minimum. Few high schools have more graduates playing profes- sional baseball than Taft. The athletic department, taking advantage of this fact, arranged the first an- nual Alumni Baseball Game. The ever-powerful arm of Dave Aronow was not strong enough to tame the big sticks of Rick Howerton, Cleveland Indians catcher, Robin Yount, starting shortstop with the Nlilwaukee Brewers, Peter LaCock, infielder with the Chicago Cubs, and Rick Auerbauch, reserve on the National League Champion Los Angeles Dodgers, just to men- tion a few.
