MEDICAL DEPARTME SENIOR MEDICAL 'MEDICAL DEPARTMENT REPRESENTATIVE UAISON JUSTUS K. EHLERS HMIKSWJ USN Performing routine surgery. 40 The medical department is responsible for the health and well being of the entire ship's crew. Illness' are diagnosed and treated daily during sickcall, emergencies! injuries are treated 24 hours a day. Emer- gency dental treatment is a routine addition to patient care services provided onboard. Regularly scheduled and surprise inspec- tions are conducted by medical department members. Daily environmental safety in- spections are held to insure that a safe and healthy environment is maintained for the crew. Preventive medicine is served by con- tinual monitoring of the ship's water sani- tation, and scheduled pest control surve s EY and treatments. Many of the ship's major operations require that medical personnel be on station in case of accident or emer- gency, flight quarters, underway replenish- ment, sea and anchor, etc. Inport the job of liaison between patients and the numerous clinics, under whose care these patients fall, be ' E ' comes a major function of the depart- ment. , -ax .
