This falljuniors and seniors will convene in a spacious new building at 24 High- way and Noland Road. Busy hands have worked hard to make this year one that will long be cherished in the. hearts and minds of Chrisman students. The coming year is a challenge in many ways-a challenge to create a new and better Chris- man as well as carrying on the traditions and achievements of the past. This challenge is incorporated within the lines ofthe poem The Salutzzlion zyfthe Dawn: Listen to the exhortation of the dawn! Look to this year! For it is life, The very life of life. In its briefcourse lie all the verities and realities of your existence. The bliss of growth, The glory of action, The splendor of beauty. For yesteryear is but a dream, And next year is only a vision, But this year well lived Makes every yesteryear a dream of happiness, And every next year a vision of hope. Look well, therefore, to this year! Such is the Salutation of the dawn. -Anonymous- As hands ofthe past have worked hard to make William Chrisman what it is, so must the hands of the future grasp the opportunities that lie before them and make the com- ing year one that will go down in the annals of William Chrisman as one of the best.'l , Our dream will become a reality vu f . Plucker S upcrintendent In keeping with his desires to grant every facility and opportunity to the students ofthe Independence Pub- lic Schools Dr. Plucker has, during his three years as superintendent, been active in the planning of the new William Chrisman high school building. As a member of the present school system for the past six years, he has had an opportunity to watch the growth of the en- tire enrollment. When asked about the change from the old building to the new he replied, With the close of this year, we look forward to a new era for William Chrisman high school. The Class of 1957 will be the last class to grad- uate from the present high school building but the grand tradition of our schools will carry on. I am sure we are all proud of the hundreds of fine young men and women who completed their high school work in these halls. I am equally confident that as we move to our new building we will use these improved facilities to climb to even greater heights and to spread the fame of William Chrisman high school to ever wid- ening fields. Administrators spent a successful year Dr. Carter as administrative assistant aids Dr. Plucker in the supervision of the Independence school district. Working for the third year in the Independence school system, Dr. Carter has observed the growth of William Chrisman and played his part in planning its expan- sion. 4 I W h e n asked his view on the change from the old building to the new he replied, With the completion of our new high school plant embodying the latest in architecture and design, featuring academic areas re- splendent in functional furniture and equipment, may the students, community and faculty all join hands as we progress together in the attainment of unchartered horizons. r 5 Pauline Brown Secrelavz to SHfIP7li7lfE7lI1f'Hl lll 'if 'YS 1.--3 Guy Carter .-I rim 1,711-Jl711fl'Z'1' .-l.t51.tlnnl and ub- s as new ber , he . en- -ding ', we lhigh rad- rand fine ool we ved ead id- Guiding the lives of students of William Chrisman is Mr. Benson, principal. He has observed the growth and change of Chrisman since his graduation in 1930 and during the past five years as administrator. William Chrisman was constructed in 1918 with the idea of having a maximum number of 950 students. Throughout the years the increase has been gradual un- til the enrollment is now 1300. Thinking as an administrator Mr. Benson said that changing from the old William Chrisman building to the new one on Noland Road will be advantageous to all students concerned. For example the science rooms, facilities cost approximately S24,000g this comparison of equipment is about the same throughout the entire building. Traditionally, we hate to leave Chrisman because of the many fine remembrances that will always be so dear to all but socially and academically the advancement will be far-reaching, Serving as vice-principal, Mr. Gregory Lefever has spent much time helping students become adjusted to life in Chrisman. After sixteen years of service at William Chrisman he makes the following observations concern- ing the changes. ,.. ., Q, sl Joseph F. Benson Principal ar executin lans for students of tomorrow . g P 'T After some several busy years at William Chrisman I am looking forward to working in a splendid n e w building with additional facilities and new equipment. Along with the changes in buildings will come changes in courses offered, and some reorganization in the pro- gram of extracurricular activities. t'The anticipated fand some unexpectedj changes are a natural outcome of growth and progress since schools must keep pace with the community ofwhich they form a vital part.
