page twentyfthree Mr. Chips Uur IIN-Ilflifllll 'llhe six years from February l, I946 until now have not been the first that our principal, lVlr. Clifford Bartholomew. has spent within the walls of A.H.S., for he was a student here from l9l8 to l922. For this reason, he especially likes the school and is grateful for the privilege of being able to serve it. Mr. liartholomew sincerely believes that our school has the best student body for miles around. and he has and will continue to do all in his power to make it a better school. VVe are to be admired, he says, because the last few years have been difficult and with faith we have learned to solve our problems. While a student at A.H.S. Mr. liartholomew was a member of the football team. manager of the basketball team, business manager of the Canary and Blur and was active in dramatics groups. His leadership ability won him the position of life president of his class. Graduation from A.H.S. did not conclude schooling for Mr. Bartholomew. Muhlenberg College with its football team, debating teams, fraternities, and class offices was his next alma mater. Prior to beginning his teaching career, the chief executive did graduate work at Columbia University and the University of Pennsylvania. At the Sheridan School, his first assignment, he taught mathematics. Harrison Morton was his next post, where he served as principal for several years before coming to A.H.S. Mr. Bartholomew is well-known civicly not only for his work in the schools, but for his affilia- tion and work with such organizations as the Community Chest, the lfoy Scouts, the Boys Club, the Kiwanis Club, the Citizens' Advisory Committee, and the Allentown Hospital. VVere Mr. Bartholomew again a student at A.H.S., he claims that he would try to convince all students to do their best, work up to their ability, to participate in activities, and to enjoy their stay at high school. MR. PAUL FATZINGER f1dnz1ni.vtratz't'f A55 i.tta nt Mr. Paul Fatzinger has held the position of admini- strative assistant to the principal at A.H.S. for only two and one--half years and has already won a place in the hearts of all. For many years to come, graduates and underclassmen will recall the little man with the deep voice who handled discipline and attendance so capably. His untiring work in managing assembly programs, visual aids, the Blue Book, and Coma! advertising will also be remembered. A graduate of Allentown High School himself, he had been active in the chorus and the classical club. After majoring in education and foreign languages at Muhlen- berg College, he began his teaching career at Raub -lunior High School. At the same time, always willing to gain more knowledge, he participated in graduate work at Indiana and Lehigh Universities. After an interruption by service in the army, he returned to teaching at Raub before accepting his present position at the High School.
