BERLIN The Class of 19-l-9 sparked by its energetic president, Jack McHugh, has established a glorious record in the various phases of school life. At the hrst class meeting the seniors were honored by th at ndance of Mayfor Donald l-lock, who gave a humorous account of his ex- ppriences as a xighlschool student. This occasion was marked by a very spirited discussion o the Comm. X Gold Rush, !their hrst social affair, featured a battle of music between two prominent bands. This was the mostsuccessful dance ever held in the Palestra. This success was dupli- cated by the senior play, f'Meet a liodyf' which ran for two nights. Plans for the Senior Farewell and Senior Day indicate that these will be memorable occasionsfy Une of the many noteworthy precedents initiated by enterprising 'lack McHugh was the Senior Advisory Geimmittee. This group, elected by the class, provided complete representa- tion in every department of school activities. jack's genius was also responsibl for sponsoring Government gorw? lJ:iy at which time seniors were elected to take over t e reins of city government fo t enty-four hours. Outstanding among the accomplishments in scholarship was the work of tanley Brandes and -lacqueline Burns, who rated highly in the annual search for science talentg Richard Clewell and Alfred Leitner, who won prizes with their English essays on Why Democracy Works. Clewell won city and state honors. Judith Daley and Audrey Harte ,Starred in Lating Barry Fein and Doris Golub gained honors in Spanishg Elinor Gottshall and Christine Brooks led their French classesg Richard Clewell, Normalee Crowegcand Doris Golub showed the way in social studies: Peggy Heimbach and Nancy Good stood out in the commercial group: lidward Poh ranked highly with vocational studentsg Reno Bedotto and Donald Dorney were especially commended for work in German.
