DRAMATICS Come you Semors of Make belneve Land and well step behInd thIs blue velvet curtam to see whats been QOIHQ on behmd the scenes Hush now the house lIghts are dlmmlng and the orchestra s tunlng up Places everyone the curtaln s QOIHQ upl lts March 25 l94'3 and here we are the class of 45 starry eyed sophomores helpIng to make the Inter class play the sparklmg comedy success that Its famous authors Florence Ryerson and Colm Clements Intended It to be Johnny Clover the Henry AldrIch type who IS the edltor of hIs hIgh school paper I plagued wIth the kInd of trouble that has exIsted Ever SINCE Eve for hIs gIrl frIend Susan Blake IS determlned to becom a career gIrl However wIth help of a capable cast and staff Johnny lS mIraculously able to straIghten everythIng out by the end of the thIrd act A swIft change of sets and we find ourselves In the lIvIng room of one Adam Adams a vIctIm of clrcumstances who has some tall explaInIng to do to hIs Wlfe and mother In law concernIng hIs where abouts the prevIous evenIng VarIous other explanatlons by characters seem only to confuse the ISSUE further so we d better take our leave now All fhIS takes place merely by coIncIdence ofcourse on the evenlng of the JunIor Class Play on February lO l944 lf you ll look at that program lve Iust handed you youll note that Katherme Kavanaugh s farce Adam s EvenIng was presented at that tlme My Its gettIng rather crowded In the wIngs Isnt It? Well no wonder look at all those hI school lads and lassIes mIllIng about They ve got letters on theIr sweaters that seem to spell out Y l P P l E H I Thats rIght these boys and gIrls are lust WOITIHQ for theIr turn to add to the merry makIng on stage of theIr very own Inter class musncal comedy YIppIe HI wrItten by two students of A H S Gerard Brlssette and Thomas Calnan whIch was successfully staged on March 23 Here If you lust step over thIs sleIgh we ll-ouch' Now whats a sewmg machIne domg here In the mIddle of the stage? lt s Brother Goose s Well far be It from me to dIsturb anythmg belongmg to that delIghtful famIly Come over here lf you look rIght through these French wIndows you can see HyacInth dumpIng some Wheat PuFfIes InlO the gas tank of a steam shovel Hmm the Semor Class Play on December 7 T944 IS what thIs dusty poster announces IS playIng Lets leave the audItorIum for a few mInutes and run up to the second floor For It IS here In MISS Bearys room 2l8 that all the dramatlc domgs are created Not only do the annual plays orIgInate here but one act plays classes In stage techmque make up and everythIng that comes under the headIngs of Dramatlcs and a few that dont are housed IH thIs comparatIvely tIny room lts four walls are lIke a magIc carpet to many of us Speakmg of magIc lust a few magIc words lIke abbacadabra and we re on the stage once more Perhaps It would have been more flttmg to mutter those mysterIous words Mumbo Jumbo for thats the tItle of the Inter Class play of T945 The evenlng of March 22 saw thIs tale of voodoo and who do unfolded as a comedy spIked Wllh mystery Well the tour s over We ll have to end our pleasant vIsIt here Wllh the showIng of our Commencement Play We must step back now Into the world of reallty for the curtaIn on the dramatlc actIvItIes on the Class of 45 IS slowly descendlng But Semor lll whIsper a word of consolatIon Into your ear all you have to do to recapture these magIc moments of entertamment IS to open thIs yearbook to these pages once agaIn and remember . , I . .
