CGMUS Master rn the field of sports The unror trred hrs powers rn the field of dramatrcs and made a very successful showing rn the presentation of Peg O My Heart The hrgh school audrtorrum was jammed to rts roof The actors were exceptionally fine particularly the guest star Beatrice Kurtz who through her own gracrousness and the courtesy of her manager Classy Thirty three substituted for Dolores Hess who was seriously rll And he found some stars of hrs own William Bartholomew Paul Heffner Edward Horn Adele Fernour Betty Snyder Robert Rees and Encouraged by the exceptional attendance at the first performance the young manager pre ented the play agarn a month later wrth Dolores Hess takrng her own role of Peg and scoring a gr at hut He was complimented by berng rnvrted to merge hrs mterest wrth those of Classy fhrrty three rn an lnterclass Frolrc Dance a huge success All thrs trme the young man s expendrtures were rncreasrng and he was filled wrth a constant craving for class dues He decided now that the old officers needed relief so he reappointed Wrllram Bartholomew to serve as Presrdent and Evelyn Arner as Vrce President but appornted Adele Bury to succeed Kathryn Hertz as secretary and Norman Schaffer to replace George Erich as treasurer These appointments made he called rt quits for another two months vacation At the end of a thrrllrng out of door sojourn he was all fine and frt to assume hrs responsrbrlrtres for the final year Hrs experience made hrm now the leading man rn the rnstrtutron and by com mon consent he became to be known as The Senror and set about to advertise hrs prestige by presenting So This ls London a three act comedy drama and was featured by the marvelous actrng of Dolores Hess Lloyd Macbeth Wrllram Bartholomew Evelyn Arner Robert Rees Betty Snyder Adele Fernour Paul Heffner Donald Dodd Frederrck Everett and Carrol Hudders To marntarn hrs success rn the world of sports he added to the football team Mrlo Sewards and Salvadore Russrano makrng a team that came through wrth a 6 to 0 score against Bethlehem Hrgh School grvrng to Allentown High School two legs on the Bethlehem Exchange Club football trophy whrch goes finally to the team that wrns three out of the five Thanksgiving Day games between the two schools As he waxed more and more successful he ventured more confidently rnto the realm of socrety and held the Senror Hop Dance December 31 I933 at Mealey s Audrtorrum wrth Bud Rader s Orchestra presrdrng a great success financially and socially The Senror then trred hard to capture agarn the basketball pennant but failed Not drs heartened however he went ahead and captured all the swrmmrng honors rn Eastern Pennsyl vanra wrth a team that featured Frederick Boos Gilbert Zregenfuss Robert Shrmer Ralph Howe and Alan Bolestrrdge This team also won the Lafayette lnterscholastrc Champronshrp and placed fourth rn the Lehigh lntercollegrate Swrmmrng Championships for prep schools and hrgh schools rn the Eastern part of the U S But none of these honors gave hrm more satrsfactron than rt drd to stand before the bulletrn board and read there the names of the many others who featured not on the athletic field or before As The Senror sat back to vrew hrs work however he was alarmed to find hrs roster had decreased from nrne hundred and ten to seven hundred and erghty students This loss he found was due partly to the length of the road and partly to the lure of the World of Labor Nothing daunted he set about to encourage hrs remarnrng companions to graduate by having hrmself fitted for a cap and gown While thrs was gorng on others of hrs assocrates were attarnrng hrgh honors rn art and rn literature Alvena Seckar one of hrs prrze artrsts was awarded a scholarshrp to the Moore Instr tute of Art rn Phrladelphra This prrze was grven to the best hrgh school artrst rn the United States rn the contest conducted by the Scholastic Magazrne rn which thrrty thousand students competed The Senror was justly proud of thrs attarnment and qurte as proud to know that seventeen preces of her work are exhrbrted rn Carnegre Institute rn Pittsburgh as a one man show unrt And rn literature ohn Ersenhard was awarded the first natronal prrze for the best lrterary artrcle A great satrsfactron he mused to have the classroom loom as large rn accomplishments as does the athletrc freld Enheartened by thrs recognrtron rn the fields of Science Art and Lrterature The Senror had a frnal swrng rn the socral world holding three events rn raprd succession The Senror Farewell Dance at Mealey s Audrtorrum and the Senror Farewell Banquet filled hrs heart wrth happiness To add to hrs content Lrlllc Women was a tremendous financial and socral success starrrng anet McNabb as o Dolores Hess as Armee Vrvran Bender as Meg Grace Bachman as Beth Adele Fernour as Mamma to the girls Betty Snyder as therr aunt Evelyn Arner as therr mard Cameron Bradley as Laurre Lloyd Macbeth as Brooks Frank Boyer as Professor Bhaer whrle Robert Rees and Bill Bartholomew played Mr March and Mr Laurence In the mrdst of all hrs joy however he observed the huge output of Commencement announce ments and found hrmself lookrng back to the months and years preceding thrs whrr of socral events He lrngered over hrs memories of the rdeals and tradrtrons he had made and marntarned He remembered hrs successful rssues of the Canary and Blue hrs fine work rn making hrs socral actrvrtres a success hrs happy relatrons wrth the faculty and hrs unbounded class sprrrt He remembered that today was Commencement a mrst clouded hrs eyes tomorrow he would step out of these halls out rnto the world And frnally hrs thoughts of that world invoked another memory a memory of a lrne he had learned and forgotten Greet the Unseen wrth a cheer Hrs shoulders strarghtened Goodby A H S he murmured Welcome World footlights, but nevertheless stood out brilliantly in the classroom, library, and laboratory. , ,... , . , .

COMUS IIIKXI 3 Rumi xx Xu Ib Bun Su x X nuns 5LIIXlllR Tru 015132 Story ut the Glass of 34 It was the fall of I93I lnto the spacious halls of A H S strode a bright eyed young fellow He was The Sophomore To establish his title he set to work and bought auditorium and gym naslum rights and all the vacant lockers fifteen hundred of them That done he settled himself into the routme of studies Everything went well He was the first student to be honored by Andrew Carnegie who had flattered him by placing a consider able number of his special proteges in the same group This intrepid Sophomore began to sponsor other features He put Herman Conrad Robert Laudenslager and Leo Todd on the football team which lost to Bethlehem High School Thanks the basketball team which won the l93I 32 Eastern Pennsylvania Basketball League pennant He contributed to the championship swimming team Christopher Qumn Donald Dodd and Karl Myers He selected President William Bartholomew Vice President Clive Franz Secretary Adele Bury and Treasurer Noble Fister to run his affairs That done he busled himself with counting class dues and contemplating a class picnic About this time June 2 l932 he bade farewell to Klasa Thirty two whom he had found to be a good friend but a more important fellow than he His picnic a week later was a huge success The week after the picnic final exams descended upon hxm and by bonmg night and day he passed them unscathed This exertion had so tired him however that his counselors advised a two months vacation Refreshed ln this way he found himself when next he entered the portals of Education feelmg a bxt more assured looking a little more worldly and intelligent and apparently a little more exclusive for he was accompanied by only nine hundred and ten students whereas the year before he had numbered one thousand one hundred This year he dubbed himself The junior placed on the team men a little more seasoned Herman Conrad Leo Todd Neil Boyle Robert Lauden slager Kenneth Poust Harry Bouchat and Frederick Burcaw and managed to secure a victory over Bethlehem Hugh School I3 to O Filled with justifiable prlde and satisfaction it occurred to him that now was the time for him and his men to make their debut into the social world with the Junior Prom the day after Thanks giving This dance was a brilliant success and was attended by every member of the 400 of Allentown High Setting out with the same players he had used the year before he again succeeded in winning the Eastern Pennsylvania Basketball pennant He produced another championship swimming team by using Robert Howe Charles Gumph of whom the latter traveled to Philadelphia swam the 220 yard free style race in the Penn A C Meet and placed second after leading the world s champion for four consecutive laps of the eight lap race l l , C XVI ..., 1 .x .uma 3 I'r1-s.
