COMUS IIIKXI 3 Rumi xx Xu Ib Bun Su x X nuns 5LIIXlllR Tru 015132 Story ut the Glass of 34 It was the fall of I93I lnto the spacious halls of A H S strode a bright eyed young fellow He was The Sophomore To establish his title he set to work and bought auditorium and gym naslum rights and all the vacant lockers fifteen hundred of them That done he settled himself into the routme of studies Everything went well He was the first student to be honored by Andrew Carnegie who had flattered him by placing a consider able number of his special proteges in the same group This intrepid Sophomore began to sponsor other features He put Herman Conrad Robert Laudenslager and Leo Todd on the football team which lost to Bethlehem High School Thanks the basketball team which won the l93I 32 Eastern Pennsylvania Basketball League pennant He contributed to the championship swimming team Christopher Qumn Donald Dodd and Karl Myers He selected President William Bartholomew Vice President Clive Franz Secretary Adele Bury and Treasurer Noble Fister to run his affairs That done he busled himself with counting class dues and contemplating a class picnic About this time June 2 l932 he bade farewell to Klasa Thirty two whom he had found to be a good friend but a more important fellow than he His picnic a week later was a huge success The week after the picnic final exams descended upon hxm and by bonmg night and day he passed them unscathed This exertion had so tired him however that his counselors advised a two months vacation Refreshed ln this way he found himself when next he entered the portals of Education feelmg a bxt more assured looking a little more worldly and intelligent and apparently a little more exclusive for he was accompanied by only nine hundred and ten students whereas the year before he had numbered one thousand one hundred This year he dubbed himself The junior placed on the team men a little more seasoned Herman Conrad Leo Todd Neil Boyle Robert Lauden slager Kenneth Poust Harry Bouchat and Frederick Burcaw and managed to secure a victory over Bethlehem Hugh School I3 to O Filled with justifiable prlde and satisfaction it occurred to him that now was the time for him and his men to make their debut into the social world with the Junior Prom the day after Thanks giving This dance was a brilliant success and was attended by every member of the 400 of Allentown High Setting out with the same players he had used the year before he again succeeded in winning the Eastern Pennsylvania Basketball pennant He produced another championship swimming team by using Robert Howe Charles Gumph of whom the latter traveled to Philadelphia swam the 220 yard free style race in the Penn A C Meet and placed second after leading the world s champion for four consecutive laps of the eight lap race l l , C XVI ..., 1 .x .uma 3 I'r1-s.
