Semin aa Qfwtazg. 'i I ONE BRIGHT SEPTEMBER morning in the year 1943, Sara Arteaga, Fred Garcia, Janet Camp, Jerry Harri- son, Jim Hansen, and Troy Neal, along with Mrs. Ruth Eikenberry, banded Together in our little kindergarten room to begin our exciting adventure of exploration into the land of 'whys' and 'whats'. With exception of Mrs. Eikenberry we enjoyed ourselves in the sand-pile and had a lot of fun learning to get along with our pals. Under the direction of Mrs. Ann Randall we learned to read and write Csomewhatt. Dorwilla Frazee joined this proud group of individuals in our first grade year of 1944. We proceeded to advance in the world, and at the end of our second year in grammar school, with the added energies of Delmas DuBois and Peggy Smith, we began to take on a tremendous amount of learning. Patsy Tschirhart and Maggie Etheredge became members of the scholarly clan in our third year of advancement. 1947 met with success, and the happy fourth graders now included Davy Sanchez. We continued our wonderous adventure in Education and entered the fifth grade in 1948. Added to our group was Carolyn Cox and Evan- geline Fielder, who helped us enjoy the enchant- ment of school life. In 1949 we were still going full blast, and the notable Gwen Clayton and Lee Harris entered the class. The great goal of all of us was achieved when we became leaders of the entire grammar school in 1950. This seventh grade class proved to be one of 'supreme intelligence', and Jim Baker, Doris Tucker and John Hernandez helped us obtain this title. It was a trying experience when we entered the eighth grade and became a part of Willcox High School. We survived, and the change was welcomed. Although we lost Dorwilla to the Cow- boys of Casa Grande, we gained Sue Berryman and completed our elementary education. Now we were members of Willcox High School. Nothing could keep these glorious freshmen from the marvelous joys of high school life. Evangeline had left us in 1949 but returned to Willcox and was with us in the ninth grade. Also, Don Cox, Q - AIT.. -fri QE'-X Tom McAllister, Pat McCombs and Bud Uohni Flanders helped us to enjoy the first year of high school. Mr. F. V. Jordan helped us to get settled and acquainted with the new school as our sponsor. Among other outstanding events our initiation took some of the energy out of us, but not much. To W.H.S. came Shirley Brown Kimzey, Shirley Drewery, Maria and Frank Moreno and Jim Smith, in 1953. Our sophomore year flew, and we con- tinued the life-time job of learning. Mr. Jordan, again our sponsor, was always ready to help us make money for the class, and we worked hard to gain our capital. Then came our junior year, and we all became high and mighty upperclassmen. Some of our men became active in sports, and others in F.F.A., and such fields, while the delicate portion of the group enjoyed Glee Club, tennis, and many other STRENUOUS activities. As our main accomplishments of the year we presented two one-act plays, and gave a successful Prom for the seniors, with the aid of our sponsor, Mrs. B. J. Corn Miskovich. To assist us in our tasks, Edres Bryant, Sherry Gunter, Phil Masters, Jim Roberson and Bill Veck joined our fast expanding band. Now for the most eventful and important year which few of us will forget. Glenn Keipe, Dorothy Amick, Claire Owen and Margaret Castillo joined the senior class in the grand year of 1955. We also had the pleasure of having Peggy reunite with us. She left us in January of 1955, but returned and entered school in September. This senior class proved to be a Privilege Character Group, for we were the first seniors to go to school in the brand new and beautiful high school, which all of us appreciated and enjoyed very much. Yes, we finally concluded our high school adventure. It was a great year, and among our accomplishments, the highly successful play-The Nervous Wreck-was presented, under the direction of Mr. J. Callas. We also put out our year book, The Roundup, went on a glorious trip to California, and graduated from high school. Mr. R. Bowman and Mrs. R. Troutman, our sponsor and co-sponsor, aided us in this mag- nificent school year. The feeling of knowing we must leave W.H.S. for good is none too wonderful, but the happy and unforgettable memories of our high school life will remain with us always. -28
