S. is a small democracy in itself, giving each student the right to help elect his representa- tive to the all-student governing body of the school. This is none other than the Student Coun- cil, composed of twelve seniors, eight juniors, and four sophomores. It maintains the Lost and Found Department, elects cheer leaders and ush- ers, handles elections, sponsors a chapel program, and trims the Christmas tree in the first Hoor hall each year. It is the privilege of the students to select as members those who can best carry cut these duties and bring honor to their alma mater. President ,, , Sam Smith Vice President , , . ACTIVITY Five students elected by popular vote and five members of the faculty appointed by the principal form the Activity Board, probably the most respected organization in the school. They elect the heads of all school productions and control such financial matters as paying BOARD chapel speakers, renting and securing movies, purchasing honor pins, and providing robes. Because of the small size of the board and the many responsibilities, membership in it is one of the highest honors the student body can confer. -24-

Yes that Qld Man Deadlinen has snuck up on that energetic Hi-Ways staff again. But miraculously every other Thursday out of this bedlam emerges our school paper, of which we are justly proud. The sports fans relive the exciting highlights of the games through Niclc,s action-packed descriptions, while the fairer sex checks upon the latest fads and fashions in Eloise's Clothesline, and the whole school laughs over Patzapoppin and Hi -links. Deftly overseeing each issue crammed full of the doings of the students, of W. H S. are Anne Betsche, the editor, and Miss Ruth Wischmeyer, advisor. Editor-inChief .
