The l946 Annual commemorates the twenty-fifth anni- versary of the Wilkinsburg High School Annual. The first Annual was published in l922 and was called the Wil-Hi- Scan although it was known as the Annual. Before this time the last or Commencement Issue of the school magazine, the Review, served in place of a yearbook. There have been numerous sponsors through the years who have willingly given their time, energy, and ability. Miss Vinnie Knappen- berger was the original sponsor in l922, followed by Miss Edna Reitz, i924-l93O, Miss Charlotte McMurray, l93O- l932, Miss lrma Hamilton, l932-I943, Mrs. Ann Aber Buck, i943-l944, and Miss Helen Heazlett, our present sponsor. The editors of the first edition set out with commendable ambitions-ambitions which each succeeding staff has continued to emulate. This goal can readily be recognized in the following Foreword from the l922 Annual: Fellow students, we, the editors of the Wilkinsburg High School Annual, are fully aware of the responsibility which you reposed in us when you gave us the privilege of superintending the publishing of the old High's first year book. We have tried to be worthy of your confidence by providing a book which will take its place among the promi- nent year books of the scholastic world. We give to you this i922 edition of the Wil-Hi-Scan as a result of our efforts. THE OLD

l THE NEW How far we have succeeded in our aims, you alone can judge, but whatever be your decision, and we all hope that it will be favorable to us, we give you this book with the best wishes of the class of '22 and hope that it will ever help to recall that class to your memory as one ever true to their Alma Mater in thought, word and deed. Thus a yearbook was born which has grown and prospered until it now ranks among the finest scholastic annuals in the country. The staff of '46 has endeavored to keep these ideals in mind and to produce another prize-winner as it planned this book.
