Sllhan P. A, LTJG OC Division Officer Medford New York OC DIVISION OC stands for operational com- munications. OC personnel are responsible for keeping our communication links open so that we can stay current with events in the outside world, and can keep others informed of our actions. We accomplish this through many means. In Radio Cen- tral, Padiomen man teletypes, voice and CW circuits. On the bridge, Quarter mas- ters fix our position and take weather readings which we send to our operational commanders. Signalmen send and receive flashing light, semaphore, and signal flag messages. The Yeomen and Personnel men in Ship's Office send, receive, route, and file the throng of official Navy correspond- ence which flows to and from the ship. The Postal Clerk handles the US Mail, both official correspondence and morale building letters from home. Doc of course, watches out for the health of the crew.
