Text from Pages 1 - 176 of the 1978 volume:

Life Is A Patchwork Quilt The Islander Wildwood High School Wildwood New Jersey 4 With some patches gay- and some patches dark, -s T And some that seem ever so dull- But if we were given to set some apart, We'd hardly know which to cull. Mr. Philip Answini The 1978 Islander Staff extends a special Thank You to Mr. Philip Answini whom we believe exceeds all the qualifications used in selecting the dedicatee. Mr. Answini is not only the principal of Wildwood High School, he is also a friend of the students. He is admired as a leader and respected as a man. Prior to his becoming principal, Mr. Answini was a teacher and vice-principal in Wildwood High School. He was involved in many student activities and functions. His acceptance of his supervisory job has not diminished his interest in students as individuals. He is considered a friend as well as a leader of Wildwood High School students. We offer our gratitude and extend a wish for continued success and happiness with many years as Principal . 10 .  —3 — 3 cl Patches Of Hours The Board Of Education Mr. Harshaw, Mr. Hlnke - Vice President, Mr. Breslin - President, Mrs. Harris, Mrs. Preston, Mrs. Breslin, Mrs. Campbell, Mr. Distro, Mr. Snyder Mr. Jensen - Secretary to the Board Mrs. Boyer - Assistant Secretary to the Board 12 Super Intender As the mechanics of yearbook publication require that this message be written eight months in advance of the appearance of the yearbook, I feel very secure in making the prophetic statement that this will be a suc- cessful school year. This year will be marked by a school-wide atmosphere of cooperation, a high level of significant student activities, and a final sense of genuine accomplishment by all involved with the school program. Such a prophecy is easily made on the last day of September because I have a well-placed confidence in the students of Wildwood High School. As you receive this yearbook in June, reflect briefly on the accuracy of this prophecy. Then, I would urge the members of the Class of 1978 to go forward from Wildwood High School toward the attain- ment of their individual prophecies for suc- cess. (MJL- ‘hrfy Arthur H. Motz 13 Princi Pal Mr. Philip Answini The Class of 78 has completed four thousand-three hundred and twenty hours or two hundred and fifty-nine thousand-two hundred minutes in Wildwood High School. During that time you were exposed to the skills that will insure your survival in to- day's environment. Hopefully you availed yourselves to all that Wildwood High School had to offer. You are now beginning your membership in adult society. It will take determination, internal motivation and hard work to be successful. You have demonstrated, in your hiqh school years, these necessary attributes. Making the right decisions to provide yourself with a healthy, happy and fulfilling life style should be of paramount importance to each of you. I wish you the very best and may God be with you at all times. 14 Our Repri Man Mr. Ernest Harper To The Graduating Class of 1978 You have earned the right to commence with this graduation another phase of your lifes. Life is a precious gift that we all have for a very short period of time, and while it is complex and not without problems, take time to enjoy it. Take time to do well in all that is worth doing, and go about the business of making your contribution to society. Be recep- tive to future education — formal or informal, we never stop learning as long as we live. 15 Our Guiding Light Success in today's com- plex world does not come easily nor automatically. It usually is achieved by those who are prepared for it. You have spent the last twelve years getting an education — getting ready for your life's work. How well you are ready for your next step depends on how you have prepared yourself up to this point. I'm sure each of you will be successful in your own way. I want to wish you much happiness so that you can enjoy your success. Mr. Pat Matteo 16 Mr. Alan Sutton Miss Dona Stepp Child Study Team During your years at Wildwood High School, you have examined yourself and your values. As a result of this self-examination, you have witnessed growth in yourself as an invididual. In addition, your knowledge and aware- ness of the world around you has in- creased. As you go through life, may you continue to grow and expand your- selves as individuals. The long hours, creativity, and wit that he has contributed to the yearbook are innumerable. Our goal to make this a memorable yearbook would not have been possible without his full-fledged cooperation. He is a teacher who enjoys kids and a man who loves people. The senior class appreciates and commends him as a teacher, an advisor, and a true friend. His name will stand out when the seniors think of their four-year careers at Wildwood High School. Mr. Fierro is a man of great insight and uniqueness. He is concerned with the student's direction in life, and he is very open-minded to the views they exhibit. Conversations with him consist of logical reasoning, in- dividualism, and wit. He works along with the students through the Human Relations Commit- tee. We thank him for being an effective administrator and an understanding friend. Mrs. Montemurro receives our gratitude for her helpful ways. Her extensive vocabulary has aided us in widening our own. Understanding, perception, and thoughtfulIness are characteristcs she displays both inside and outside the classroom. We com- pliment her, as a friend and a teacher on her many fine qualities. Mr. Troiano is often associated with the word psychology , through which he has taught us about the mind and behavior. His understanding of people has reached beyond the classroom. In the past he advised the student council; and throughout the 77-78 school year he coached the girl's basketball team. We acknowl- edge him for his understanding and friendship. cn jo—io “nmzmro I INVESTING IN MEMORIES OUR WILDWOOD rtieil SCHOOI ORDER FOi!M L Page ............. H Page .............
