CRD ON GOLDEN POND This inspiring movie staring Kath- erine Hepburn, Henry Fonda, and Jane Fonda was rated the number two movie of the year by students at W.A. lt dealt with growing old and growing together on Golden Pond. RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK This exciting adventure movie captured the third place ranking among students at W.A. The film, starring Harrison Ford, kept audi- ences spellbound as the search for the lost Ark of the Covenent lead them through jungles, the hot sands of Egypt, and into a pit of snakes. JONl A delightful movie of courage and determination. This biographical movie about the life of Joni Erick- son was rated the number four movie of the year by movie goers at W.A. CPGD AUTHER A hilarious movie about a spoiled rich boy, played by Dudley Moore, who falls in love with a poor city girl, Liza Minelli. lt's theme song, Between the Moon and New York City, sung by Christopher Cross was also a big hit. A FAREWELL TO ARMS by Ernest Hemingway A bittersweet tale of love and war set in 1918 italy, it is the story of Frederick Henry, an American fighting in the italian army, and Catherine Barkley, a lovely, disillu- sioned, English nurse. Their love affair, carried on against the back- drop of war, is handled in typical Hemingway fashion. THE GREAT GATSBY by F. Scott Fitzgerald Jay Gatsby is a man of mystery. Either he is a shrewd business- man, or he's a bootlegger, he's a man of honor or a common crimi- nal, a man loved by many or used by all. Through the eyes of Nick Carraway, Gatsby's neighbor, the reader sees the strange, decadent parties at Gatsby's house, the lo- vely, weak Daisy with whom Gatsby is obsessed, Her brutal, jealous husband,Tom,and Jordan Baker, the girl with hair like an autumn leaf', whom Nick loves. The entangling of these lives leads the reader deeper into the mys- tery of Jay Gatsby to the final, ter- rible, climatic day when the mys- tery is solved and so many lives are changed. THE OLD MAN AND THE SEA by Ernest Hemingway Not just another fish tale , THE OLD MAN AND THE SEA won both the Pulitzer and Nobel Prizes for Ernest Hemingway. lt is the story of Santiago, the old Cuban fisher- man who has caught no fish in many days, and of the small boy who still has faith in him. Santiago is the typical Hemingway hero, though not in his prime, who must test himself and prove his man- hood. Hooking the biggest marlin he's ever seen, struggling with it for three days, then losing it to sharks is truly a test for Santiago. Even though he returns to the vil- lage with only the bones of his catch, it is still the biggest fish the villagers have seen, and Santiago, though worn out from his strug- gles, has proven himself. THURSDAY FAME NBC C8-9p.m. ETD The hit movie of the 80's became a popular T.V. series in 1982. lt is a jazzed-up show featuring the teachers and students at the New York School of Fine Arts. Each show is filled with the latest dance and song. TUESDAY FLAMINGO ROAD NBC C8-9p.m. ETD One of the many night time soap operas to fill the T.V. screen in 1982. This one is set in the fiction- al southern town of Truero, Flor- ida. Here such distinguishable citi- zens as Claude and Eudora Welding, their daughter Con- stance, Michael Tyrone, and many others can be found in an evergo- ing battle for power. WEDNESDAY DYNASTY ABC C8-9p.m. ETD This other night time soap opera takes us across the country to Colorado where a rich oil tycoon, Blake Carrington lives with his family. Every week the Carring- ton's suffer many tragedies and traumas which seem to get more complicated with each passing week. THURSDAY HILL STREET BLUES NBC C9-1Op.m. ETD The winner of many emmy awards, Hill Street Blues is not just another police story.
