For the first time, in Junior year, we noticed how young and silly the entering freshmen looked. We knew all the rules by now; though we didn’t quite have the run of the school we man- aged to do fairly well. ’81 brought the splendor of England’s Royal Wedding of Prince Charles and Lady Di and the appointment of Sandra Day O’Connor as the first female member of the U.S. Supreme Court. We were shocked to learn of the assassination of Egyptian President Anwar Sadat, the attempts on the lives of President Reagan and Pope John 8

ders of fifteen black children in Atlanta caused many of our students to wear green ribbons in sympathy just as yellow ribbons flew across the nation in support for our Hostages in Iran. All of America rejoiced in the return of the Hos- tages. They were greeted by an ecstatic nation that breathed a deep sigh of relief. “Who shot J.R.?” was the burning question of the day as millions tuned in to watch Dallas. We also tuned in to the spectacular eruption of Mount St. Helens and the magnificent pictures 7

The space shuttle Columbia took her maiden voyage and Sony’s Walkman stole the music scene; video games and Rubic’s Cube became all-consuming crazes. We at Wilby were evaluated by an imposing board of educators. All of Waterbury shared in our pride when we received the maximum possi- ble accreditation - 10 YEARS! 9
