Text from Pages 1 - 152 of the 1979 volume:

Wilby I ]— 1 -ligh School 1979 Searching For A Rainbow As at the shimmering rainbow we gaze, Our thoughts turn back to childhood days When at the end of each rainbow we were told Waited for the lucky seeker, a pot of gold. Life is a rainbow, or so it might seem For those willing and daring enough to follow a dream. Each color a road beckoning onward round a bend Challenging the gazer to pursue the elusive end. Take up the challenge as you look to the sky. For life as a rainbow grows dim as it passes by. Follow, if you stumble make the next step firmer, bold. And you will reach your life's goal, find your pot of gold. MZB Wilby Alma Mater When we but hear the name of Wilby We will rise and pledge anew The measure of all our heart's devotion To her we will still be true We cannot refuse her when she calls us To work or play or sing We'll do our best what e'er befalls us And honor to Wilby bring Then raise our voice for Wilby Let her name and her fame be known For her we stand, and now each hand For her shall be proudly shown Fair Play is still our motto May the best man win the game And so we're proud to shout aloud THE WILBY NAME Dedication Tribute Faculty Seniors Superlatives Sports Activities Class Will Advertisements Directory Dedication 4 William LaVallee Mr. William LaVallee, raised in Waterbury's East End, attended Chase Grammar School, Crosby High School, and graduated with a B. Mr. LaVallee feels being a class adviser is rewarding, fulfilling, and a lot of fun. He feels this has given him the opportunity to work and help the students achieve what they want. From this achievement comes the gratification in words of appreciation for him. Mr. LaVallee enjoys teaching his students and working with the faculty of Wilby. At this time, Mr. LaVallee wishes to extend his thanks to all the people of Wilby who have helped him, and to the Junior and Senior class officers for the outstanding work they have done. Also, he would like to thank his co-adviser, Miss Kathleen McGrath, for her invalu- able and enthusiastic effort in making the class of 1979 a success. Mr. LaVallee is proud and honored to have the Class of 1979 dedicated their year- book to him, and he wishes them the best of success, health, and happiness in their endeavers. Coviello Seniors, you who are the first class graduating from the new Wilby, have had the opportunity of experiencing school life in a new and beautiful complex — the only one in the states. This means that you have gotten the chance of at least one year to work with and use our new facilities. Many people have worked to get this school started: and you as the upper classmen, have shown leadership and set a good example for the other classes. You are a group brought together from all walks of life. You nave been given chances to relate with your classmates by being taught in fields of your interest that will make the transition from school to on-the job training or preparation for college. This new complex should enlighten your knowledge. I am proud to see your group, the first group, to graduate from the New wilby1'. Philip Leonard! Louis Mazzaferro Vice Principals They are known as our friendly announcers on our new P.A. system. With just a push of the button they can be heard anytime or anywhere. You will also see them patrolling the halls to make sure everyone is in class on time. They are present in our cafe, and remind us to keep our tables clean. This is a new building and experience for them as well as us. They wisn us good health, luck and happiness. Mike placed 9th in the N.V.L. meet and 11th in the State Championships. Mike Habrukovich performed well on the 100 yard backstroke. For the past four years, he has proven to be one of the finest swimmers for Wilby High. Bill's swimming career was highlighted by a personal best time in the 100 yard Dreastroke of 1:17.9. These two seniors. Mike Ha- brukovich and Bill Coleman, will not be forgotten, as they have provided needed leadership to a team that was composed of many underclassmen, even though the pool was not ready until January.
