FHA FHA stresses community involvement The Future Homemakers of America at Wichita Falls High School strives to help youth as- sume their roles in society through home economics in such areas as personal growth, family life, and community involve- ment. FHA's motto is Toward new Horizons. Some of FHA's ser- vice projects included taking can goods to Pioneer Manor at Thanksgiving, and singing Christmas carols to Day Care Centers. FTA FTA members keep busy To interest competent young men and women in teaching as a career is just one of the purposes of Future Teachers of America. This organization provides members with experiences to develop their qualities of leadership and group participation. This club sponsors the cadet teaching program and participates in the district and state conventions. Some events in- clude making run through signs, wrapping victory apples, and mak- ing decorations for Faith City Mis- sion. Selling Kool Kans, spirit dolls, valentine suckers, garters for Howdy and sponsoring the Favor- ite Teacher contest are some of their fund raising projects through- out the year. Established in 1951, FTA also provides the Lula Carrigan scholarship to one of their members. Sponsors Mr. Joe Studer, Mrs. Virginia Stock- ton, Mrs. Noma Clapp, and Mrs. Georgann Wigley are the rea- sons why this club is such a suc- cess. The new club was de- signed to help members better communicate with the hearing impaired students WFHS re- ceived this year. During the year members participated in activi- ties such as the Lion's Club Fair, Deaf Awareness Week and Hand- icap Awareness Week.
