-its H. BEDFORD FURR, M.A. Southem Methodist University Sponsor of National Forensic League ln our twisted surroundings of satel- lites, cold wars, atomic bombs and a quest for world supremacy, the ability to ex- press oneis self accurately and thoroughly is of the utmost importance. The Depart- ment of Speech does an excellent job of training our high school students in the art of correctly and adequately transform- ing their thoughts or ideas to words. De- baters are often in the limelight winning state honors in the National Forensic League. A three-act play produced and di- rected by members of the National Thes- pian Society always marks a high light in the spring activities of the WFSH stu- dents. These two national organizations of speech students combine with the other branches of the department, Amateur Guild, stagecraft and regular speech classes, to compose an essential and re- warding department. Art has many expressive mediums -drawing, painting, clay sculpture or copper enameling. Commercially inclined students have a wonderful. chance to put their advertising tal- ents to good use through art instruction. This de- partment sponsors THE COYOTE along with other helpful school projects. Beauty surrounds us, and the art students capture it for our school and community. JOYCE P. SAMUELS, MS Columbia' University O Nothing seems to build up that Coyote spirit as much as music groups of our school. The band illustrates precise marching as half- time entertainment at each football game and provides a spirit booster at the pep rallies. The all-state choir brings many honors to the school. To the different branches of the music department, band, choir and orchestra, uthat Coyote spirit is much indebted. H. J. JACKSON, M.Ed.
