. ., ,, QW is S H I ,est 351 , ,.,. . , While WICHITA was in Subic Bay, Republic of the Philippines, a lot of work was done on the ship dur- ing a two week availability, the bulk of the jobs being done in the Engineering Department. Several valves were overhauled, steam pipes repaired, and the vent for the old Av-Gas tank on the forecastle was removed. Av-Gas hasn't been used since the end of the Viet Nam era and the tank has been used to store fresh water used to clean up the ship. The water would also have been used to provide showers and fresh water for any refugees iboat peoplel we may have picked up. We think that the ship looks mur h better without the old vent sticking up on the fore- castle. 4 R ! '...., 5 ill? ,A I ., I y 1 P ' r T X 1,1 u .fi y 5 'W is W' , Z 1 .. Out on the et onomy there were several goodies that the WICHITA world travelers could reasonably purchase. Custom tailored rlothes and shoes were some ol the more popular items along with hand wood carvings and furniture.
