Homecoming brings victories Victory was in the air at the 1987 Basketball Homecoming. Not only did the basketball team defeat Waldron, but there were two other winners: Senior Nancy Jackson and Sophomore Sherri Klinkowski were crowned Queen and Prin- cess. I didn't think it would happen because it seemed too good to be happening to me. The next morn- ing when I woke up, I didn't think my roses would still be there, ex- claimed Sherri Klinkowski. Students got into the spirit dur- ing the week by participating in Surf Day or College Day, Dress-up Day, and Blue and White Day. A. In her enchanting portray- al of Maria Rainier, Jane went from a nun at Nonnberg Abbey, to the wife of the very stern and business- like Captain Georg Von Trapp, played by Derek. Hired as a governess for the Von Trapp children, Maria finds happi- ness but soon experiences prob- lems because of Hitler's take-over A. Uncle Max (Doug Reingardt) wants to know why Gretl (Jamie Dougherty) isn't singing as the children try to raise their spir- its with a song Maria taught them. B. Captain Von Trapp (Derek Drockelman) and Baroness Elsa Schraeder (Carl Shields) share plans for their future in the beauty of his mountain home. C. Liesl (Stephanie Carter) reads the order of the program for the Kahltzberg Festival to sisters Gretl and Brigitta. of Ausfria and the captain's en- gagement to Baroness Elsa Schraeder, who was aptly charac- terized by Cari Shields. The chil- dren's roles were well-performed by Stephanie Carter, Matt Ingle, Mishelle McGill, Brad Houshour, Cheryl Stowe, Leslie Doyle, and Ja- mie Dougherty. Throughout the musical a some- what-conniving Max Detweiler, played by Doug Reingardt, tried to enter the children in the Kahltz- berg Festival, despite the disap- proval of the captain.
