Each organization has a purpose, a goal, and well-kept stan- dards. This year WHS has added a new organization to the list- Quill and Scroll . Quill and Scroll is an honorary journalism clubifor journalism members only. A lot of hard work goes into this section by the sec- tion editor and the yearbook staff. Others who help make this section possible are Mr. Hagan and Mr. Nichols, who allow students to get out of classes to get their pictures made. Organizations - 2 3

Dedication Charaoterizes 1981 Yearbook Staff Being a member of the yearbook staff requires much dedication and hard work. The staff stays after school on Tuesdays every week and on other days if neces- sary in order to get pages ready for one of the four major deadlines. It takes cooperation from everyone, students and teachers, in order to get the book com- pleted. The staff begins the yearbook before school is out the preceding year with the selection of the staff and plans being made to attend the journalism camp held in Dallas and San Antonio. While at camp the staff organizes the entire yearbook which includes deciding on the number of pages, the format, cover, theme and heading styles. After camp and before school starts the staff sells ads to help defray the cost of the year- books. Besides doing lay-outs, writing copy and heads, the staff, under the leadership of student photogra- phers, shoot, develop and print practically all of the pictures in the yearbook. Students on the yearbook staff must really be dedicated in order to be able to work much of the time out of the spotlight and under much pressure. As one student said, The greatest reward from being on the staff is to be able to look at the finished product in May and to be able to see that all that work really paid off. A. Shannon Harden works hard on football lay-outs. B. The yearbook staff listens to Mrs. Brewer's daily assignment. C. John Altier inspects the negatives. D.
