This was a year for big changes in the appearance of the high school campus. The Whitehall-Coplay School District planned major additions that began in spring with a 3.6 million dollar bond issue. Scheduled for construction were a bus garage, fieldhouse, elementary school, stadium lights, and adjustments to improve the baseball field. The fieldhouse will be located between the football stadium and the practice field. Coach Andrew Melosky remarked that the field-house should have been built five to 10 years ago. “Along with the lights in the stadium, they will be worth their weight in gold,” he said. The fieldhouse and the greatly needed bus garage were both started in April. The new elementary school will have 40 rooms and house 1,200 students. The township, along with the campus, grew too. A multi-million dollar development known as the Presidential Estates was approved by the Whitehall Township Commissioners. This building project, expected to be completed in 1977, will take up about 135 acres. Some household types include townhouses, apartments, singles, doubles, and fourplexes. The development will bring abojjt 1,500 new students into the Whitehall-Coplay schools at an estimated cost of $1,650,000 yearly. 25 changes
