Donald Charles represented the Coll-Chronicle Newspapers at the Ford Teenage Press Conference which took place October 7, 8, and 9 in Detroit, Michigan. Donald was selected on the basis of the sports columns and news stories he had written for THE OWL. SPELLING BEE FINALIST - As a result of placing in the final competition, William Nagle received a diction- ary from Call-Chronicle Newspapers, 1 i SLOGAN WINNERS - Receiving prizes for the best slogans on Fire Pre- vention from Alton Wagaman, are Linda Peters, Mary Ann Nevins and Margaret Moline. 30 Whitehall has much to be proud of this year as many of her sons and daughters capped awards for achievement. Early in the year, sports editor of THE OWL, Don Charles, represented the Call-Chronicle Newspapers at the Ford Teenage Press Conference in Detroit, Michigan. Starting as a routine English assignment, Penny Steckel's I Speak for Democracy theme was judged best at Whitehall. Senior Margaret Moline, iunior Mary Ann Nevins, and sophomore Linda Peters created very original slogans on Fire Prevention. Both William Nagle and Marvin Klotz were commended for their knowledge. William became a Lehigh Valley Spelling Bee semi-finalist, and Mar- vin's biological entry in the Science Fair won him the reserve grand championship. Chosen for outstanding citizenship, Barbara Kotcher is Whitehall's DAR representative.
