Rebels 21-7 and winning the 11-AAAA district title. The spirit-filled week was concluded by the Homecoming Dance in the Regen- cy Room of the Adolphus Hotel. The Horns moved to the Lake Highlands one, only to see a fumble erase the scoring bid. Split-end )eff Webb caught a Wildcat punt at the 50, and went in untouched. In the 3rd quarter, Mike McCord topped off a drive with a 1 yard sneak and an extra point pass to Randy Fry. Randy Fry kicked the winning extra point after quarterback Mike McCord teamed with Alan Em- erson for a 9 yard TD pass with 2:11 remaining in the game. The Longhorns piled up a 21-7 win with two quick scores in the first quarter. Mike McCord hit Cal Axtell with a 28-yard pass midway in the first period. An end-around for 32 yards by Jeff Webb provided a big step in White ' s opening TD drive as Charlie Wood went the final four. BA led at the half 10-7. In the final minute of the 3rd quarter, Webb caught a McCord pass and went 38 yards for the score. BA quarterback Quency Hill put on quite a passing show in the 4th quarter. Things were getting too close for comfort, so Emerson intercepteda Hill pass and raced 74 yards for White ' s last TD. Row 7. White got on the scoreboard first by taking the opening kick-off in. Zack Fry ran the final 31 yards up the middle. Mike McCord, who kept the defense honest with his accurate passes, hit Cal Axtell on a 26 yard TD throw in the second quarter. With 57 seconds left in the half, Scott Barton got his first TD on a one-yard run to give the Longhorns a 20-14 half-time lead. Hillcrest came roaring back in the final half. When it looked like the Panthers had a victory in hand, Barton evened things up with 1:32 left in the game. Randy Fry added the extra and winning kick. ' % WTW 28 Skyline 6 The Longhorns took the opening kick-off and drove 66 yards for a touch- down with McCord hitting Axtell for the scoring five yards. Showing an excellent defensive ef- fort, the Horns held the Raiders on the White one-yard line. After taking the ball over on the one, the Longhorns car- ried the ball back 99 yards for a score early in the second period. McCord and Axtell teamed up for the 36 yard touch- down pass. Randy Fry intercepted a Skyline pass setting up another ' White TD. Scott Barton, from a yard out, made the score at half-time 21-0. White scored on the first play of the fourth quarter. Again it was a McCord- Axtell combination on an 18-yard pass. Skyline ' s only score came in the third quarter. Randy Fry added his first of six conver- sions. The Longhorns came on strong in the second period, adding 28 more points. Jeff Webb scored twice, running 54 yards on an end-around for one score and on a 56 yard pass play from Mike McCord. McCord also hit Scott Barton with a 25 yard screen pass for a score. Charlie Wood scored on a three yard run and added the game ' s final TD with a one yard plunge in the third period. WTW 36 WTW 53 Nimitz Spruce 7 After being held to no first downs in the initial quarter, the Longhorns began to move in the sec- ond period when Mike McCord connected with left Webb on a 28-yard scoring pass. McCord pas- sed again, this time hitting Scott Barton for the score. Curt Welwood put the final touches on a 66 yard drive in the third quarter. The next score by Welwood resulted from a pass interception by Tom Riordan. Late in the final period Randy Fry in- tercepted another Viking pass and ran 20 yards for the final TD. The Apaches took the opening kick-off and drove 79 yards in 10 plays for the first touchdown of the game. Four minutes later White started a scoring spree with Barton scoring three times. Ax- tell, Webb, Welwood, Struble, and Emerson also contributed to the score. The Longhorn defense, led by Brock Lynn, Alan Emerson, Randy Fry, Kyle Marshall, Tim Smith, Mark Stinson, and banny Stoll, limited the Spruce offense to just 7 yards on the ground and 71 in the air. On the first play from scrimmage, Keith Few recovered a fumble and set up another score. McCord hit Webb again for the TD. White opened the fourth quarter with two quick touchdowns. Curt Welwood scored on a 3-yard run. A little later McCord and Webb teamed up for their third score of the evening on a 26- yard pass. The second White touchdown came just before the hal f with McCord taking to the air ' to direct a 99-yard drive. Barton got the score on a one-yard run. In the third quarter the Rebels marched to the White 24-yard line where the Longhorns held. Alan Emerson picked off a Hill pass which started a drive for the final score.
