UPERATIO Communications. correspondence. combat inl'ormation. electronics repair. miscel- laneous. paper xsork. and. abose all. MAIL. are the responsibilities of Operations Disision personnel. The Radiomen run the radio shack. standing watches day in and day out. in port and at sea. They reeeixe and route most ol' the important communications trallie insolsing the ship. such as orders lo get under tsay. typhoon warnings and shore duty orders. , The Radarmen are dormant most oi' the time the ship is in port. but their role is a vital one when the ship is underway tif' you doubt it. just ask theml. They use radar to help in the sale naxigation ol' the ship. and during operations they keep the bridge informed ol' the progress of the exercise. Train, train. train is their motto. The Signalmen handle all sisual communications between our ship and others. and most ol' them are quite proficient in flashing light. semaphore and flag hoists. The Yeomcn and Personnelmen try to bring order out of chaos as far as the ship's paperisork is concerned. Amid endless queries and requests from the crew. they take care ol' correspondence. sersiee records and legal records. lt is unwise to run al'oul ol' these boss. for they are custodians ol' the liberty card box. J.J. Papa is our mailmzin and keeps busy cancelling outgoing mail and picking up incoming letters. Besides maintaining all the postoffice records and reports. Jack has the collateral duty of decoding the many important encrypted messages which come in lo the ship. a job which can roust him Out of bed at any time of day or night. Along with the consenience ot' modern radar and radio equipment goes the headache ol' keeping it running. This job is the responsibility of our two ET's. .l.B. Dunn and J.L. Fox. When they get time. they can usually hx our own radios. too. Our two Quartermasters. Chiet' Parris and Nick Jennings. like to think ol' themsleves as being it separate division. but their work is closely associated with other operations activities. lfsing loran. the sun. the stars and sometimes radar. these two men furnish at continual anssser to the question Where are wc?
