A secondary job is to handle the fueling of the ship. Underway the boiler tenders work in the hottest spots on the ship. the lirerooms. They stand three section watches. with three men in each hreroom. under the supervision of the Ofiicer of the Watch. A heavy responsibility rests on the petty ofhcer in charge of each section, for he handles the actual steaming ofthe boilers, selecting the right burners and setting' the air pressure and feedwater levelg he must be alert and well-trained to handle any potenti- ally dangerous casualties to his boiler. Other personnel control the steam and fuel oil pressures take readin s 31 . ' g and keep the coffee fresh. When the ship is takin on fuel the 3 . entire division turns to taking Soundings and regulating valves.
