SENIOR CLASS POEM By Helen Chapman We have spennt our childhood Among the lofty peaks of a democracy. The symbol df the Winged eagle Has guided lour stumbling, childish feet throughkwisted paths. Freedom i Has given life+not death to our adventurous youth. y Now we begin to carve a future. We hew that future In the pure marble of opportunity, in granite of hope and of faith. A We inscribe alfuture ambition. Still the firm grip of democracy guides the un- skilled bland, And We are happy. We are happy: Oppression shall not visit us. We are happyg Our children Will walk the paths That We have made, In the wake qf the Winged eagle. 1939 l r l
