Mr. Felmet and Mrs. Holcomb discuss the well-publicized Kensington-Wheaton Chamber of Commerce project: Band Uniforms Needed for Our High School. While the Chorus Sang, the Band Played on The first of Wheaton's six singing groups, directed by Mrs. Pauline Holcomb, is the Junior High Chorus. The main purpose of this begin- ners' chorus is to teach eighth and ninth grade students the fundamentals of music, but the group of 94 also entertains. The Tenth Grade Chorus, with a membership of 55, is one more step up the musical ladder, the group's biggest singing date this year was the Senior Graduation in spring. Last, but by no means the least of this musical triumvirate, is the Senior Chorus, of group of 67, which sings at many programs, both in and out of school. The Girls Glee Club supplements the choruses at assemblies. There are 48 girls in the Club, which is actually a class, as are the three choruses. The Knightingales and the Singing Knights are both extra-curricular activities. The 30 boys of the Singing Knights say they sing for fun and relaxation, but they also entertain at school assemblies. The six Knightingales tall girlsl sang at various school affairs during the year, but their big date was at the Kiwanis Convention in Atlantic City this spring. The music department boasts four instrumen- tal organizations, each of which is an integral part of school life. The Orchestra, consisting of 28 musically tal- ented boys and girls and directed by Mr. Fred Felmet, is not only a class but also a performing group. This year, the Orchestra played at the Honor Society Induction, and at the Senior Grad- l3Ulif0llS uation, the group also participated in the Spring Concert where honors were shared with the Band The Band, a group of 75, is also a class and also performs, under the direction of Mr. Felmet The most important function of this organiza tion is to play at football games - a function which it fills admirably. This fall, the members performed bravely and sharply in all weather, adding a great deal to the spirit of the observers The Band also marched in parades, performed at assemblies, and, of course, played at the annual Spring Concert The Dance Band, which is sponsored by Mr Carl Mitchell, is a group of ll who, as the name suggests, play at local and school dances. This year, the Band, which is also known as The Regents, played at Wheaton's Bonfire Bop and at the Faculty Sway, in addition to playing at local affairs The Pep Band, sponsored by Mr. Felmet, con sists of l5 members tall boysi, and is always available to stir up spirit for any worthy school cause. ln the past year the Band s most notable performances have been at pep assemblies, at the fall Bonfire, and as the avant-garde of the Lance's publicity committee. ,foto .
