AND YOUR FUTURE L L — j 113 114 The Varsity team finished 11-5 for the Old Colony League and they tied for first place with Plymouth-Carver. In the tour- nament they played division one. in the quarter final round. They lost to the top team, Norwood. The starting team was made up of all seniors except center-fielder Jim Cavallo. The entire pitching staff, however, was underclassmen: Mike Shaw, Lars Lam- bros, Mike Marshall and Jim Gilboy. The Junior Varsity Squad finished first with a 13-3 record, headed by pitchers Mike Marini and Tom Spano. The lead- ing hitters were Brian Baumeister, Mike Mahoney and Geff Daley. (back) John Smith. The team was led by se- nior tri-captains Brian Connors, Lars Lambros, and Jack Mathison. Mike Mar- shall and Steve Rodden filled the other starting spots. The team got help from Bob West, Peter Newman, John Mahoney, and Brian Chaison. The team enjoyed its finest year in over a decade, due to hard work and the fine coaching of Terry Morreli. John Mahoney. 117 118 The Girl ' s Basketball Team is currently in first place in the Old Colony League with a 10-2 record. There are seven games re- maining on the regular season schedule and the team needs 2 wins to qualify for post-season play. The team has already won the Christmas Tourney held in Weymouth and has beaten South twice already. The team is led by Kelly O ' Brian, M.V.P. of the Christmas Tourney, who currently is averaging 12-2 points per game. Seniors Sharon Brigham and Nancy Donovan are leading rebounders and senior Laurie Wil- liams is playing well defensively. Junior Ai- leen Duffy is leading the team in steals and assists. Other team members were Jim Frazier, Pat Des- mond, Kevin Roche, Matt Rinella, Den- nis Doyle, Bill Doyle, Colby Geever, and David Smith. Pat Fitzgerald had an excellent sea- son, finishing second in the Catholic Memorial meet, Seventh in the State Di- vision 1 meet and 1 5th in the All-State meet. He missed making the All-East team, which cometed in California, by one place. Next year ' s captains will be Jim Frazier, Kevin Roche, and Dennis Doyle. The girls ' team swept through the O.C.L. league undefeated, with an 8-0 record. They then went on to win the O.C.L. league meet. They then finished 4th on the Division I state meet, led by a 10th place finish by Christine Petterson. This qualified the girls for the All-State meet, at Northfield Mountain, in North- field, MA. Here the girls finished 1 7th in the state, an outstanding accomplish- ment! This year ' s captains were Laurie Leonard and Kelly MacMillan. Other team members included Jenny Conroy, Anne Cullivan, Helen Cullivan, Maureen Brown, Cindy Crocker, Maureen John- son, Chris Preskins, Cheryl White, Christine Peterson, and Margaret Muir. Next year ' s captains are Maureen Brown, Anne Cullivan, and Cheryl White. At the halfway point, North is undefeated at 1 2 wins losses and 1 tie, and well on its way to its third consecutive Old Colony League Championship. Senior Captain Tim Sweeney is leading the entire state in scoring, followed by Bobby Coyle who is number two in scoring in the state. In addition, the improved play of senior to- wards Joe Walsh and John Muirhead have greatly helped the balanced offen- sive play of the first three liens. The de- fensive corp is lead by seniors Jim Ger- vasi, George Selados, and Bob Barry who have allowed the opposing teams and fewest shots in the league. Out- standing hockey teams have been the norm at Weymouth North, and this years team is continuing that tradition. Weymouth plays a division I schedule based on level of success. The LaCrosse team has 1 8 returning varsity players for the 1985 season, among them the teams two highest scorers James Jack- son and Mark Donovan. Returning seniors Tom David and Rich Davis will also play a key role. Despite being plagued by several major injuries, the players hung tough together to play a great many outstanding games. Leading this year ' s team were Cap- tains Tim Sweeney (7 goals, 3 assists), Sean O ' Keefe, and Brian Connors. Coming through with some outstanding performances this past year were Paul Xayavong (O.C.L. All-Star), Mike Carter (O.C.L. All-Star), and Scott Barnes (O.C.L. All-Star). Leading next year ' s team as captains along with Xayavong and Carter will be Ernie Bean. Bright Spots from this year was the success of our J.V. Squad, coached by Rick Mills; and especially the success of our freshman team, led by Coach John Babineau. With such strengths to build on, 1985 should be a great year for Weymouth North Soccer! For the first time in eight years the team finished with a losing record. The combination of injuries to key players, inexperience and plain bad luck haunted this years team. The suc- cess of the season was in large part due to the pitching of Lisa Emmett and Shar- on Brigham as well as the consistent hitting of Kelly Emmett and Julie O ' Neil both All-Stars. The defensive play of Sue Geddis (All-Star), Lisa Foley and Kelly Emmett was also a contributing factor. The leadership of Kristi Savage and Lori Wright was crucial to the team ' s suc- cess. The team did well in the running events but was hurt badly in field events due to lack of depth or inexperienced competitors. Senior Co-Captain Joy Gardner shorted the schools Breast- stroke record and was selected a Sub- urban League All-Star. Freshman Andrea Wight re-wrote the record book in several events and was selected as a Suburban League All-Star and a Patriot Ledger All-Scholastic. Mike Mahoney set a new 50 yard dash record of 5.7 seconds. The team of 3 at Fitzgerald, Kevin Roche, Tim Sweeney and Robert Boice shattered the old mile record by over 6 seconds. Only in its second year of competition, the two victo- ries marked the first for a North team. The Girls showed steady improvement throughout the year. Led by seniors Sharon Brigham, (captain) Lisa Foley, Mary De- fault and sophomores Tricia Sipola, Laura Cameron and Diane Ruane, the girls came very close to winning 3 other games. With a year of competition behind them and 3 starters returning, things look good for Vol- leyball at W.N.H.S. We ' ve been at North High for the past four years. At first we felt like guinea pigs because we were the first freshman class. We even tested the teachers because they weren ' t used to having ninth graders in the high school. We proved that it could be done and done well! Most of us had some pretty hard times but each of us came out of them very well. The saying holds true in studying as in sports: where there is no pain, there is no gain. For the past four years we have gone through a great deal together. That is the reason we are such a good class! We are like family. Don ' t look back on your high school years because they are said to be the best years of your life. Instead keep in touch with friends, because a first friend is the longest to last.
