With the guidance of Mr. Paul Fuller, our advisor extraordinaire, Rene ' e, Kim, Julie, and Kevin have coordinated fund raisers (everything from sending a flower to selling candy bars), organized our class activities, and represented our school at numerous outside functions. Rene ' e was chosen student Governor of Massachusetts. On April 2, 1982 she addressed the state legislature and exercised the privilege of passing or vetoing selected state bills. 21 Donna A. Our Teachers created the positive atmosphere in the school throu gh their rapport with the students. They shared their views with students on a one to one basis, providing a learning experience for all. Wanna buy a candy bar? 83 84 «6 II They ' ll never get me. 91 I r 1 I 95 Senior year! Ah yes — that long awaited year. Along with becoming seniors and savoring the last of our fun-filled, carefree adolescent times, comes the need for making mature and competent decisions. Questions such as Do I want to go to college? and What do I want out of life? must be answered. Even if we do nt t know the answers to these questions yet, we must acknowledge that these situations exist. Every graduating senior must ask himself How will I meet the future? . Some of us will welcome it with open arms while others will sit back and let it happen. The biggest conquest we will make is accepting change. The world is constantly changing; the seasons, the heavens, and people. We change with each passing day. Consciously we change in order to meet the goals we set, but unconsciously our environment and the values of society shape us, and we become their products. We in turn change these values as we progress into the future; hence creating a perpetual cycle. The middleman of America must accept the problems of the future such as nuclear power, inflation and genetic exploitation. The person who wants a college education, a well paying job, and a family must meet a terrific challenge to insure that the American ideal does not vanish with these highly technical times. We should welcome change, but we should also maintain and reach our goals. As seniors we have learned to deal with change. We entered Weymouth North as naive teenagers not knowing quite what to expect. We established new friendships, accepted the challenge of academics, and grew with one another through athletics and extra curricula activities. Now, we emerge from high school as mature young people able to confront our problems through the expertise and knowledge we have obtained from our peers and teachers. Using these tools we confront the future and accept change. We will be prepared to reach our goals and live the American Dream. The real issue is not what the future holds for us but how we hold the future. The squad set a school record for ties with a 3-7-8 season. Senior goalies, Glenn Raeside and Dave Robison, shared duties in net, while Suburban League all-star, George Player, secured the defense along with Jim Emmett. Juniors Dave John- son and Bill Johnson con- trolled the mid-field as seniors Tom Leahy, Jim Flynn, and Tom Krai led the attack on offense with all- stars Scott Fowler and Bill Loud. Football The 1981 football team was lead by co-captains Chuck Dwyer and Lance Lambros. These men were outstanding leaders throughout the season. A very demanding schedule tested our talents. Tom Tanner, Kevin Stevens, Tom Burke, and Peter Kane provided the squad with the enthusiasm that is so necessary to a team. The team ' s future looks promising. With the strong underclassmen talent, we look forward to a good season next year. HURRAH! WE BEAT SOUTH!! 132 133 CROSS COUNTRY And they ' re off!! You call this fun? The 1981 Boys and Girls Cross Country Team enjoyed a successful season, finishing the year at 5 wins and 5 losses. Underclassmen Rich Austin and Rob Costello led the boys ' team, while senior tri-captains Jim Grandfield, Bob Burke, and Rob Connolly added depth. Also, play- ing key roles for North were juniors Dan O ' Reilly and Jim Roche, and freshman Pat Fitzgerald. For the girls, freshman Laurie Leonard consistently finished first for North. Captain Linda Petterson came on strong the latter half of the season, setting an example for all to follow. Prospects look even better for next year, as underclassmen Maureen Tracy, Ginger Rober, and Kelly MacMillan will all return and no runners will be lost to graduation. Post season honors were received by Rich Austin and Laurie Leonard, who were voted to the Patriot Ledger All-Scholastic Team. Freshman Laurie Leonard GOLF The North High golf team had an off year in 1981 . It was a young team that was led by Captain Ann Linehan. The only other senior was Kevin Mahoney. The juniors on the t eam were Paul Burns, Mike Johnson, Doug Bosse and Dave Gray. Th lone sophomore was Chris DiBona. The main highlight of the year was a win over Quincy. Their coach, John Lonergan, deserves much thanks. The girls appreciated his enthusiastic instruction and support. CHEERLEADING Thanksgiving Day game was a great make-up for the past season. On the attack, seniors John Walsh, Mike Chiros, Jack Joy, Bob Gervasi, John Petitti, and Dan Silva provided the scoring punch. Team co-captains Debbie Chiros and Ann Barden gave the team leadership and enthusiasm throughout the season. Next year, the team will miss seniors Patty Anderson, Ann Bar- den, Debbie Chiros, Debbie Fulton, Elaine Santry and Heather Wood. Due to a single heart breaking loss to Quincy by a tenth of a point, the Boys were denied their third consecutive League championship. Co-Captain Steve Gustafson established himself as one of the best gymnasts in the state by breaking almost every existing record. Gustafson scored a 50 point performance in a satisfying victory over Braintree. Another record setter was Dave Pepe on the rings. This well rounded team headed for the state tournament with Co-captain Joe Correnti and Jim Emmett on the horse; Jim Bagley on the parallel bars and floor exercises; Victor Alosi on the high bar; and Tom Clark and Mike Mathewson on the floor exercises and vault. North ' s baseball teams have always been a force in the suburban league, and this year is no exception. The team has an experienced pitching staff consisting of Rich Lockhead, John Walsh, and Mike Walsh. Veterans Tino Gomez and Mike Chiros patrol the outfield, while returning Tom Leahy, Glenn Raeside and George Zmudzien secure the infield. At bat the team is well balanced with speed and power. How ' s this pose? I actually caught it! We ' ve got to stop meeting like this. 155 Back: 1-r, Maureen Sybertz, Sue Fox, Debbie Marcel, Casey Balzano, Amy Garner, Kathy Boben, Linnea Hollander, Front: 1-r, Julie Bean, Lauren Keaney, Lori Sears, Cheryl Alcione, Sue Martell, Eleanora Grasso. Softball Under the direction of Coach Marcie Arnold, this year the team enjoyed a productive season. The reaso n for its success can be credited to the leadership displayed by the seniors and the players ' ability to work well on both offense and defense. With the consistant pitching of hurler Kathy Boben added to the hitting and running talents of Sue Martell and Julie Bean, the maroons always posed a threat to their oppo- nents. Each year North ' s Softball program has grown and improved to become a respectable team. In the future the varsity will get a boost from the underclassmen who displayed enthu- siasm and improvement in their skills. 156 Back row: 1-r, Assistant Coach John Wyman, Allan Masison, Scott McLeod, Fred McNeil, Kirk Curcuru, Jeff Heinz, Mike Wyman, John Gabriel, Steve Lee, Dave Linehan, John Gagnon, Coach Anthony Manzelli. Front row: 1-r, John Donovan, Mike Periello, Bob McCormack, Tom Kelly, Greg Menz, Peter Keith, John Reddish, Paul Donovan. CATCH CRADLE CRUNCH 1981 was another winning season for the North lacrosse club. Under the able leadership of Coach Manzelli the large enthusiastic squad had a record of nine wins and five losses. John Donovan was one of the most dependable and solid all round midfielders in the league last season. In 1982 he will dominate the play with his excellent skills and comprehension of the game. John Reddish led the attack with good stick handling while Mike Wyman gave the team strong defensive support. Goaltending is the most difficult position to play in a lacrosse game, but as a sophomore Nipper Donovan did an excellent job in the goal last year. This season with more experience under his belt Nipper will be one of the finest goalies in the league. Lacrosse fans look forward to the 1982 season. Assistant Coach Wyman has many promising JV players to continue the Maroon ' s winning ways. Front row: 1-r, Dawn Lunde, Tina George, Joyce Roussell, Ann Linehan, Donna Beady. Mrs. Gabriel and Mrs. Wight both did an excellent job on short notice. The staff pulled together to produce what we hope is a book that captures both the spirit and essence of W.N.H.S. A yearbook is much more than a collection of names and faces. Rather, it is a reflection of the class as a whole and the year in which it was made. A guy you hardly know. A guy who works for a cold, impersonal outfit in some faraway city. How could you know him? He doesn ' t have time to visit his clients (which is rather mysterious considering he never seems to be in his office when you have a claim). That ' s a secret agent. But when your agent is one of the Big I Guys, you do know him and he knows you. Because instead of bieng like a good neighbor. he is your neighbor-living and working right in our town. He doesn ' t work for a company. He works for you. He helps you choose the right policy from the right company at the right price. And he ' s always available with answers, advice and service on your claims. So if you ' re tired of doing business with a secret agent, get to know the Big I Guys at your local Independent Insurance Agency.
