For some it has been a time of confusion and uncertainty, but we have felt a sense of self- achievement and accomplishment. We thought we were on the top step of the ladder, but in reality our senior year was a beginning. Whether we go to work or to college we will face many challenges, further experiencing the essence of life. Kevin M. Barry Paula A. Barry Paul W. Bartlett Mary F. They give us knowledge; they entertain us with their wit; they lead us to search for answers to questions that we never knew existed. But most of all, each one gives to his students a piece of himself. Richard B. Dwyer 1918-1979 In Memory of Richard B. Dwyer The memory of this dear man Will linger on inside. The memory of this dear man Will linger on with pride. A master of our language, A man of great prestige. A master, most of poetry, He spoke to us with ease. When flowers bloomed, and robins sang And green became the grass, He sighed a happy little sigh, Ah — Spring is here at last! This was his favorite time of year, A time that he loved best. And spring, it was so very near, Though nearer was his rest. And in the spring of every year, He ' d gather us about, Reciting springtime sonnets that His favorite authors wrote. Some people choose to participate in organized sports, while others prefer to cheer for their favorite players and teams. Some athletes prefer the solitude of long dis- tance running, while others live to stuff a basketball in front of a roaring crowd. Whatever the time, and whatever the event, athletes and fans will continue to build memories for Weymouth North. 145 First row: Craig Binney, Dan Sheehan, John Lyman, Alan Perdigao, Scott Binney. Girls ' Soccer u 150 Boys ' Soccer The Boys ' Varsity Soccer Team finished the year with a record of 4-8-4. On a positive note, however, the Thanksgiving Day Game provided a triumphant victory for the team. With the aggressive front scoring line and the stalwart defense and goal tending, our team won the Hobomock Christmas Tournament by de- feating Silver Lake 5-3. Although this year ' s squad was young and inexperi- enced, it was quite talented, and they finished at the top of the Suburban League. Congratulations to a first-rate team! Although they had a disappointing season, the Girls ' Gymnastics Team never lacked spirit or determination. Coach Jeffe and Captain Cindy Robar aided the girls through a long and de- manding season. Guided by the strong coach- ing of Dick Hayes and Bill Codero, three gymnasts from North went to the State Meet. One of them was Se- nior Captain Ron Carlson. Girls ' Swim Team With a record of 3-4-1, the Girls ' Swim Team has developed into a de- dicated and competitive team. During the 86-86 tie meet against Weymouth South High, both of these captains broke all of the records in their respective events. Coach Patti Castellon looks forward to continued Swim Team success next year. The combination of new coaches, some strong seniors, and some hope- ful underclassmen provided an excit- ing season for the 1979 Girls ' and Boys Tennis Teams. Tennis Baseball First row: Butch Crooker, Kenneth Evans, David Morris, Coach Player, Scott Harrington, Ron Carlson, Jay Blanchard. Veteran Coach George Player, who has just completed his eighteenth year as coach, led the Baseball Team and maintained North ' s winning trad- ition. The team was League Co- Champion in 1978. Returning seniors were Ron Carlson, Jay Blanchard, Butch Crooker, Scott Raeside, and Dave Morris. 168 I Softball The Girls ' Softball Team for 1979 was a relatively experienced one. Los- ing 3 seniors from the 1978 season was a serious blow, but this year ' s sophomores looked good. Graduates from last year ' s Junior Varsity Team helped bolster this year ' s team also. The competent coaching of Veteran Coach Carol Arnold was an important factor. The team is proud of their past records and confident of continued success. First row: Sharon Poreca, Peggy Lynn, Linda Hutchinson, Jane Reddish, Jean Mills, Alison Molignano. Second row: Coach Carol Arnold, Carol McDonald, Jackie Jamieson, Maryanne Mclntyre, June Foley, Sue Lindquist, Theresa MacAleese, Melanie Furlong, Sue Ahern, asst. Coach Karen Batista. ' 44 ' 12 30% 32 ? La Crosse The 1978 LaCrosse season was the best ever at Weymouth North. The team made it to the quarter finals of the State Tournament and lost to the state champions. Over 20 high school LaCrosse records were set on the way to the tournament. For the 1979 sea- son, there will be a good number of returning players. It is hoped that the record wins of last year can be achieved again. 1979 will also be the first year of a Junior Varsity team, and this will allow more boys to play. 170 Golf The Golf Team ' s record was only one match away from a 50-50 record this year, but the successful part of the sea- son lay in the fact that every single match was close. The outstanding qual- ities of this year ' s team were solidarity and class. They played as a unit, and every golfer contributed to at least one win. They maintained a one for all at- titude on and off the course, and coach Walter Murphy wishes all his golfers success in all their future golfing days. Peter Hanifan, Alan Murray, Bob Tormey, Neil Larlcin, Coach Murphy, Scott Fedor, Steven Ganel. Individual clubs visited the Whole World Celebration in Boston and enjoyed sampling foreign foods. These clubs help spark student interest in foreign cultures and peoples. 4!§ . In recent years North Highlights has progressed from a small, mimeographed handout to a tabloid-size offset edition with photos and art work. Mr. Abbot, Tom Frank, Jean Mills, Dianne Fallon and staff are proud of their accomplishments. Equally proud are co-editors of Reflections, Linda Martin and Lois Hardy, whose efforts are mirrored in the creative magazine of North ' s students. Mr. Ghiorse is their advisor. The revitalized Photography Club is alive, well, and functioning in the dark room. 193 The Weymouth North Debate Team, under the supervision of Mr. Reeves, enjoyed a successful first year of interscholastic com- petition. Another first was North ' s en- trance into the South Shore Inter- scholastic Chess League. Mr. Dufault is proud of his players and their outstanding perfor- mances. North ' s Math Team, super- vised by Mrs. Halloran and Mr. Green, often placed highly in The Greater Boston Math League Meets, and they enjoyed prac- tices against South High. The Folk Club was organized this year as a result of student-teacher interest in the area of folk music. The Club hoped to provide an opportunity for students to attend concerts, share songs, and learn techniques of playing. Mr. Martin and Mr. Chiorse are the talented advisors. The Ski Club first spent a January weekend in Mt. Orford, Canada. Their second expedition was the February vacation trip to beautiful Innsbruck, Austria. austna Senior Class Play Daisy Mae Li ' l Abner Cathy Given L ' il Abner f) ft ft John Griffin Extensive auditions of at least se- venty candidates led to the success- ful staging of L ' il Abner. Mr. Egan and his council members were proud of the money they raised. Also involved in fund-raising activities was the Senior Nominating Committee. Mr. Ghiorse and his group of go-getters en- thusiastically helped the class of ' 79 lower its dues. 198 Weymouth North ' s Cheerleaders, under the supervision of Suzanne McCarthy, had an enjoyable year. After a most successful Thanksgiving rally, the girls proudly cheered for their victorious football team on Thanksgiving Day. Their enthusiasm lasted throughout a Christmas Basketball Tournament and an action-packed basketball season. Also busy cheering this year was the newly organized Pep Squad. Their purpose was to help improve school spirit and participation at sports events. The Peppers were led by Diane Wall and Barbie Creighton. 200 The Student-Faculty Assembly Committee planned and organized in-school , assemblies, sponsored a public performance of The Pocket Mime Theater, and raised over $1,000 to fund future assemblies. Mr. Wiedmann and a group of interested students booked a limousine and raffled off a ride to school. This fund-raising effort profited those Close-Up students who visited Washington, D.C. last spring. The Key club is a service organization. It ' s sponsored by the local Kiwanis Club. Fund raising projects included sporting events, programs, and the annual scholarship award. Other fund raising events were held by the National Honor Society. The College Bowl, Fall Folk Concert, and the Blood Drive highlighted this year ' s program calendar. Jean Mills, Amy Gabriel, Michael Grafton, Sandra Alemian, and Mrs. Whitlow organized the Society ' s events. Project Part Time students, aided by Miss Tollo, taught numerous creative lessons to Weymouth Elementary school students. They enjoyed themselves while they shared their skills with youngsters. Another on the job group is the student Secretaries Organization. These students performed typical office duties in school offices and at the Administration Building. The Nursery School Program also enables students to learn more about career choices. The Child Care Center is a Laboratory Nursery School located behind North High School. 203 USB ) PLAY DOWN WEY.SOUTHpn YARDS TO GO r _ 1 Music is an integral part of North ' s extracurricular ac- tivities. The Concert Choir, Chorus, and Orchestra per- formed under the direction of Mrs. Hodges. The Band had a new director this year, Mr. A. Douglas Wauchope. The band deserves much credit for their enthusias- tic participation in numerous school events. Under the supervision of Mrs. Mahoney, the Prom Committee worked hard to make this year ' s Prom a highlight for the Class of ' 79- The memories shared at Lantana ' s made all their efforts worthwhile. Two other groups who deserve credit for their hard work are the Cap and Gown Committee and the Coffee and Donuts Staff. Many a morning, many an eye was opened by the hot and cold refreshments served before homeroom! We face each day one at a time, knowing that it takes us one day closer to June, and one day closer to the next school year. We sit back and observe the Seniors enjoying their outstanding year, realiz- ing that someday we will be in the same spotlight. 208 Scott Binney Donna Bishop Christine Bleakley Patrice Bonvie Betsy Bouchard Joyce Bouchard Susan Boudreau Michele Boudreault Joseph Boudreault Robert Boudreault David Bouley Steven Bourgoin Peter Boyd Deborah Boyle Laurie Bonvie Claire Bradford William Brangiforte David Breen Frederick Brennan Lawrence Brennan Stephen Brennan Sandra Brett Lisa Briggs Timothy Bryant Elisabeth Buckley Joanne Bulens Joseph Bulens John Burke Liz Burke Maria Burke Lynda Burke Joanne Burns Leo Burns Edward Bzdula Lori Cabral David Cahoon William Callahan Git Lori Cameron Deborah Campanale Karen Campbell Lynda Campbell Paula Campbell Joseph Cardinal Donna Carlson 209 210 Carolyn Cunniff Kirk Curcuru Joseph Curran Lauren Curran Scott Currier Linda Curro Brian Curtain Denise Daley John Daley Eileen Daly Linda Damon Diane D ' Arrigo Mauricia Darvish Steven David Brenda Davidson Jeffrey Davidson Linda Coolen Robert Coose Denise Cordingly Carol Costello Katrina Costello Karen Caswell Maureen Coughlin Jean Couture Susan Coyle Barbara Crayton Jeffrey Crocker Carol Crooker Robert Cullivan Mary Ellen Cullivan 7 Pamela Curtis Cheryl Cusick Arezou Dadgar Louis Dalesandro a ft 211 4k Laura DeRusha Karen Desmond Lisa Desmond Rhonda Desmond Daniel Deveau Donna Deveau James DeVincentis John DeVincentis a r Kevin Donohoe Collette Donovan Doreen Donovan James Donovan Mary Kate Donovan Shaun Donovan Joseph Dooley Brenda Doyle Janet Doyle Kelly Doyle Caroline Driscoll Sheila Davidson James Davis Kirk Davis Lisa Davis Michael Davis Nancy DeCoste John Delaney Robin Delehanty Donna Dempsey James Dempsey Peter Deneault Robert Devingo Pamela Dewey Paul Deyeso Domina DiMatteo David DiSessa Michael Donaher Kelly Donnelly Gail Donohoe es 4fi ft i .. ft M a « .a a 214 Donna Driscoll Teresa Drown William Drummey Cathrine Drysdale Patricia Duffy William Dumais Jeanne Durant Christine Dwyer Deborah Dwyer Joan Easter David Egan Bruce Egerton David Eisan Anne Allison Barbara Evans Gregory Evans Michael Falletti Dianne Fallon Richard Falzone Lisa Fardy Kim Faquhar William Farrell Richard Fay Scott Fedor Brian Feeney Paula Ferrante Anthony Ferullo David Fillingim Virginia Findlay Tracey Fitzgerald Diane Fitzpatrick Mary Flaherty Stephen Flanagan Ellen Foley John Foley $ 7 I I 1 June Foley Marlene Foley Mary Beth Foley Barbara Follet Michael Ford Michael Fortnam Susan Fox Victoria Geddes Wayne Gedutis Brenda George Stephanie George Diane Gervasi Gary Gervasi Peter Giacobbe 216 Lisa Giacomozzi Daniel Giampietro Cathrine Gilboy Sharon Gillian Lawrence Gillis M arie Gillooly Pamela Given v«4 Paula Given Kathleen Gleason Larry Goines Lauren Gokey Lori Gooch Richard Goodick a Andrea Gosselin Paul Gosselin George Graham Paul Grandfield Edward Grant Salvarore Grasso Julie Gray Donna Greb Robert Griffin Beth Grojean John Grojean Robin Grote Carl Gustafson Karen Gustafson Mark Gustafson Till Gunerson Julie Gunerson Karen Haas Francis Halev Gail Hail Heidi Hall Blair Hamilton James Hamilton 7 a. n £ Peter Hamilton Donna Hammon Karen Handrahan Traci Harufan Linda Harrington Scon Harnngton Laura Harrison 21 Laura Harvey Stephen Harvey Robin Hassan Christine Hatch Kevin Hause Deidre Hayes Joanne Hayes Sharon Healey Michelle Healy Mike Heindrichs Brian Herlihy Paul Hibbard Brian Hickey Ann-Marie Hilbert Elizabeth Hodges Brenda Hogan j Ji , i .
