Anxious we hurry, Confused we cry for the circles of daylight go round and round Saddened, alone, Hoping we ' re not the only ones hiding from Time ' s ugly frown. Nervous we panic Frustrated we scream to the deep sea of living Don ' t let us drown! Happy we made it Worried we pray that the sun setting low still means a new day. 13 r William Keams Principal Robert West Assistant Superintendent for Secondary School Edward Knight Assistant Principal William Concannon Assistant Principal 1 ADMINISTRATION Dr. Leon H. These Were the Good Old Days We watched an entire nation over-do the bicentennial, and each of us sat back and hopelessly fell in love with Nadia Co- maneci and Dorothy Hamrriill. We were the first class to witness the birth of the Joey Stivick doll, complete with entire male anatomy, and we watched Barbie ' s younger sister, Skipper, reach puberty with a move of her arm. We gained a lifetime of knowl- edge from Mary Hartman, and adopted the Fonz, Vinnie Bar- barino, and the Six Million Dollar Man as our T.V. heroes. . . . Everyone listened intently to Gary Gilmore ' s death-wish plea, and to Bob Dylan ' s song of the injustice done to Reuben Hur- ricane ' ' Carter . . . We held our breath at the time of the Argo Merchant oil spill. None of us knew that Liberia existed until their ships began dumping millions of gallons of oil into Ameri- can waters . . . We were the first class in years to have our basements painted. In our sophomore year we were granted the long awaited priviledge for which many classes before us had fought: we were allowed to smoke (tobacco) at lunch . . . We watched two races battle over busing in Southie, and saw an un- known named Jimmy Carter defeat a president we didn ' t elect. In just a few short months we became sick to death of hearing about Rosalynn, Amy, brother Billy, and Miss Lillian, and be- came equally sick of the C.B. radio boom ... In our senior year nature gave us something the school committee hadn ' t: an extra vacation and a lot of snow to shovel . . . Most of us suffered through S.A.T. ' s and then delved into the tedious work of filling out college applications; then waited, hoping, with our fingers crossed . . . We traveled in caravans to the Eagles-Fleetwood Mac concert at Schaeffer Stadium, and a few months later sat be- fore our T.V. sets and watched the Patriots get robbed in Oak- land. We cried for Jack Nicholson in Cuckoo ' s Nest, and all die girls drooled over Roger Daltrey in Tommy . . . We partied at the New Beach, were one of the last classes to make full use of the REZ and invented half day parties on Great Hill . . . We were disappointed when the drive-in was torn down, and each of us did his part to keep the Weymouth Police Force on its toes. These are just a few of the experiences that have set the moods of the Class of 1977, but they do not even begin to make a dent in the things we will experience individually in the years ahead. I). ! HARDING COORDINATOR Dear Graduate, Just as moods vary between yesterday, today and tomorrow, so too have your experiences been during your high school years. As graduates you are experiencing the exhilarating mood of happiness as you look forward to the future. While experiencing this rapture, however, it is most important to make a wise appraisal of your yesterdays, for this becomes the foundation of your tomorrow. In looking back, you will see successes and failures which collectively make up today. Don ' t sell yourself short in your appraisal. Don ' t underestimate your abilities. Move forward from today with confidence] Real success and happiness is measured by the contribution one makes to life. The world has many needs, many things you can do; find them and make your contribution, experiencing again and again the mood of happiness. The better world begins with you. Good luck, Graduate, and best wishes. Sincerely, Collins, rector JFC hc I! STUDENT GOVERNMENT , v . George Lambros Pres. Marty Curran Sec. Phil Wood Vice. Pres. What ' s the theme again? It didn ' t matter. Whatever it was we were certain that, Richard could draw it! First we waged the great pronoun war: We vs. You . We won . . . We forged ahead and aced the first sixteen, in spite of the fact that Cathie missed dinner. The voc section was bequeathed to Greg; the ad staff broke all records, but advisor freak-outs became more frequent as the next deadline approached: The Directory! The problems seemed insurmountable, but Mrs. St. John ' s typing class and our merciless editors saved us. Once again, we had made it. Yet another monstrous deadline loomed ahead. We stumbled on, groping blindly. Debbie searched frantically for Coastal Corporation. Where ' s Charlie? Do we have pictures yet? Neurosis and panic mounted. Clearly it was time for an all nighter . We stormed the coke machines . . . and sent out for pizza We feasted in the teacher ' s room, giggling over No-Arms and pep- peroni. Then back to work, but already fatigue highs were setting in. Ed ' s head was dead. Amanda entertained us with her famous pizza- puppet routine while Frances created unprintable captions and Paul made highly artistic decisions about senior section candids. When the night was over it was dimly clear that we might make it again . . . until the great week-long snow day. A snow day emergency meeting was called. The trusty staff trudged in . . . while Dick Switched and headed south. That 70 pages went to press . . . and the next deadline reared its ugly head. We agonized over school activities. Does any- one know who this is? Untimely exams threatened to dissipate staff enthusiasm. But Jane Jr. typed on and Ellen slaved over superlatives. Once again it was time for an all nighter. This time, Craig vetoed pepperoni, but Paul and Frances insisted. Kat hy Kelley relayed phone messages to everyone ' s parents and Ms. Cornell suffered nicotine withdrawal โ€” but we got it in on time. As the end seemed near, the staff, sustained only by visions of the yearbook bash, struggled to retain the last vestiges of sanity. When last seen, the yearbook ad- visors would only say, Ask Paul.
