U L WEYMOUTH NORTH WEYMOUTH VOC. TECH It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of Light, it was the season of Dark- ness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair, we had everything before us, we had nothing before us, we were all going direct to Heaven, we were all going direct the other way - in short, the period was so far like the present period, that some of its noisiest authorities insisted on its being received, for good or for evil, in the super- lative degree of comparison only. 4 You put your left foot in You put your left foot out and you shake it all about 7 8 15 «fflMUH 17 19 20 24 25 26 27 30 Deborah A. Peruzzi 108 109 114 115 117 A senior is nothing to tangle with. Just when his growing pains stop his wisdom teeth start. Birds and bees be- come passe and the only change of life is tomorrow. Suddenly the opposite sex seems more than a y chromo- some. A senior is something in tne make. He is a member of the working class (-010-42-5762). He is poet, artist, musi- cian, mechanic. Suddenly Saigon matters. For he is a piece of the continent and vice-versa. He is career oriented. Katherine Gibbs and the Marines are calling. Time is at his heels and day dreaming be- comes a sacrilege. He is competitive and college bound. It is do or die and Darwin is taking bets. He is a man of the world and every mother ' s baby. He frequents the guidance office more than the basement. And the Fire Dept. frequents the basement more than . . . And even though he is flatfooted and often too platonic; even though unemployment is up and his math scores are down — for the first and last time the possibilities seem unlimited. 120 121 122 Underclassman: Sophomores and Juniors Except for the Miracle of One A Day the underclassman remains as unchanged and as universal asffR 2 Whether in bobby socks or braless, from Europe to the South Seas he is a phenomenon. He is something out of the Twilight Zone: a homo semi-erectus who has sprouted too much, too suddenly, whose arms and legs are too long, feet and nose, too big, whose chest is as shallow and barren as Eliot ' s Waste Land. He is a narcissist and ClearasiPs biggest market. He is too old for the boy scouts; too young for the Elks. He is what keeps Dear Abby ticking. For these are the awkward years. He is indeed going through a phase . He frequents the basement faithfully yet hobbles cross-legged to class. He is a great lover. Fate has his number and fate can keep it. Que sera, sera. For these are the best years , the ones to look back and laugh on. He is registered, initiated, programmed, quizzed, tested, quested, and measured. He is taught. He is taught to learn. He is taught to learn to teach. He is a necessary, insignificant spot in space. For this is no man ' s land, and realizing such, he looks for the front and the future. 124 George H.
