Q4 it ' MMQMJ gl. Highlights Wetumpka opened its season with a stunning victory over the Tallassee Tigers. It was the first time in two years that the Indians had beaten another county team. The Indians drove eight yards for a touchdown on their first possession. The Tigers took the lead in the second quarter, leading 14-7 at the half. In the second half, the Indian defense rose to the occasion, limiting the Tigers to 25 yards. An 88 yard drive produced the second Indian touchdown and tied the game. The third Wetumpka TD followed a 43 yard run by Crenshaw. Moments later, Fred Jeffery picked-off a Tallassee pass, insuring the Indian victory. Wetumpka 28, Tallassee 14 Before a standing-room-only crowd at Boykin Field, the Indians soundly defeated the Holtville Bulldogs, scoring two TD's in the first quarter. Late in the second quarter, while pinned deep in Indian territory, Stanley Taylor broke loose on a 95 yard run to put the Indians ahead at the half, 21-O. In the second half the Indians would again dominate play, scoring two more touchdowns. The defensive team scored one of those touchdowns when Phillip McCarty intercepted a Holtville pass and ran 18 yards for the score. Wetumpka 35, Holtville O The Wetumpka Indians ran-up their third straight victory and their second shutout of the season as they defeated a good Lanett team 29-O. Early in the first quarter, the Indians scored on a four yard run by Taylor, Strickland kicked the PAT. Lanett threatened to tie the score in the second period, but the Indian defense held them out of the end zone. Wetumpka scored again in the third quarter on a 68 yard run by Taylor. Peevy would add another TD as Strickland furnished the PAT. The final score would come on a 46 yard run by Rodney Crenshaw, with Tim Elliott completing a two point conversion pass to Taylor. Wetumpka 29, Lanett 0 Homecoming 1984 proved to be a sweet victory as the Indians shut-out the Bullock Co. Hornets 41-O. Wetumpka didn't waste much time getting started, scoring on their opening drive. At the half, the score would read 28-O, following TD's by Peevy and Bowe. Early in the second half, Taylor scored and Strickland booted his 18th consecutive PAT. Bill Lawrence would add the Indians' final TD of the game. The defense deserves due credit for holding the Hornets to only five first downs and 76 total offensive yards. Wetumpka 41, Bullock Co. O 45
