Chieftain Dedication Goes To Bulkley, Dant And Thomas In the four short years since Mr. Mike Dant has been at Westwood, he has made his mark. He established himself quickly as one of the master teachers in the English Department, having the knowledge of his subject matter and the expertise to impart it to his students in such a way that they learned, enjoyed it and like their instructor. This English teacher has been made girls golf pro and boys tennis pro, and has succeeded in both areas. lf you want to see his eyes light up, ask him about his wife the artist, his two daughters, or offer him some chocolate. Mr. Alvie Thomas is one of those War Weary Warriors who started at Westwood way back in l962, the first year we opened the Westwood doors to students. This happy-go-lucky teacher has been teaching junior students history for the past twenty years, and loving every day of it, and teaching them in such a way that they love his class, and learn a lot of history. Alvie Thomas is one of those caring people who help make the school tick. He has always been a class sponsor, and taken more than his share of responsibility with supervising students in their extra curricular activities. For many years he coached football, and has recently switched to coaching the girls softball team and assisting with girls track, and he has achieved great success in this area. John Bulkley joined the Westwood staff in I966 as a counselor, and has been working in that capacity, heading the department for a period of ten years. Mr. Bulkley came from Carson Junior where he had been a teacher! coach since I957. This pleasant, easy-going man deals with his counselees in a very caring, down-to- earth manner, he has excellent rapport with them and the teaching staff, all of which contributes to the tremendous success he experiences in this position. If you want to get a big smile from Mr. Bulkley, ask him about his golf game or the St. Louis Cardinals. DEDICATION-I7
