Under Lou Matlack, our S.B.P., and Dick Trismen, Chief Proctor, several improvements were made. The most important of these was the estab- lishment of the Discipline Committee made up of the Chief Proctor, the Council secretary, and one rotating member. This committee handled the punishment for latenesses and sleepovers. The change gave Council extra time formerly used in deciding these disciplinary measures thus allowing it to concentrate more on con- structive business. The Christmas dance, the refinishing of the Casino and the Handbook were undertaken by the joint councils. Among other accomplishments of Boys' Council were the repairing of the horse shoe pits, subscribing to Magazines for the Boys' parlors and in general keeping the school morale on a high level. 16

I L, .. lfpli' Q Ti' X' ,..,..pr N., . Jaime' 'Moderation is the word' is Marsie' Levering's motto as emphasized in her campaign speech last year. When Marsie emerged victorious in the elections, she added S.B.P. to her already impressive list of extra-curricular activities. She came to Westtown in her sophomore year, and in the three years she's been here, she's readily taken an active' part in sports and class functions. A member of the hockey and lacross teams,basketball squad, she also has been on the Ring and Pin Committee, in the Senior Play, and Mixed Chorus. As S.B.P. Marsie helped instigate the Song and Cheer Contest and the project of painting the once shabby casino. Her sense of humor, friendliness and wise judgment in Council have had excellent morale boosting effects on the school. We all take our hats off to her for the fine work she has done this year. When Lou came to Westtown his sophomore year, his abilities were already obvious. He was a council member, made two varsities, and took leadership in class activities his first year. The next year, Lou added to his honors two semesters of council member, class president, and three more varsities. Lou was the obvious one to take the helm of Council when the time came for elections for that top office a student can hold, S.B.P. His efficiency was exceeded only by his good nature and fairness. This year has proved to be equal to all expectations as far as Lou is concerned. Not only has he captained the soccer team, abley managed the sports page of the school paper, and gained the society of Cum Laude at midyear, but has done a great deal as S.B.P.towards making this year a successful one for Westtown. 15

Girls' Council this year accomplished quite a few thingsgand aside from the perennial latenesses and minor shikes, it met with few disciplinary problems. Some of the accomplishments resulted from the Suggestion Box, some from the Work Shop, and some from Council's own ingenuity. lt sponsored sandwich sales Friday nights to get money for a steam iron for Bacon Cottage. Also, it bought a subscription to the 'Saturday Evening Post' for the Girls' parlor. A more important innovation was the representation of day students on Council.
