BUYS' BASKETBALL -'liifll ' i iilll taillllgg To begin the Boys' 1949-'50 basketball season, West- town had two returning lettermen: Bob Fowler, the team's tall center, and Earl Harrison, coming back to serve his fourth season. Colonel Raiford upped to the Varsity from last year's reserves two forwards, Captain Ted Wickersham and Bill McEwen, and guard Heinz Koch. Lee Morgan and new senior Fred Lane supplemented the regular lineup, while sky-scraping junior john Houghton and seniors Griff Buttrick and Christ White served as substitutes. Bob Fowler was consistently high scorer, averaging in the first half of the season better than 16 points a game, with Harrison close behind him. Through the season the jayvees were subject to much change, as new combinations were tried. Regularly among them, however, were forwards Barrow, jones, Ayres, and Solt, all seniors, and guards Lebo, Harris, Kaiser and Binford. The final squad was chosen rnjanuary and immediately began regular practice under the able guidance of Annabelle Flitcraft. Regular forwards on the Varsity were Autry Brown Ozzie Osler, and Linda johanning, while Captain Ginny Dulany, Syl Perera and Les Michels guarded the baskets. High scoring honors throughout the season were shared by Autry Brown and Ozzie , while Mary Anne Kupp was top scorer for the j.V. team, which was cap tained by guard Diane Bringhurst. Keeping score and backing up the team at every game was our faithful manager, Polly Richardson, and our thanks to both Polly and Teacher Annabelle for such a successful S easo n.
