Westport Senior High School aspires to success in educating its students. Such success is unattainable, however, without the cooperation of the other components essential to the education process; the student, the home, the community. Only through the combined efforts of all, can our school be true to its motto, “Together we can succeed.’’ Congratulations to the Class of ‘85. Mrs. Karen Swift Mrs. Karen Swift is currently serv- ing her third year as principal at Westport. Mrs. Swift is a firm believer in teamwork, as evidenced by the mot- to, “Together we can succeed” which appears on most in-school cor- respondence. The Principal’s Student Advisory Committee is further evidence that Mrs. Swift seeks to make the functioning of Westport truly a team effort. Student leaders are given an opportunity to have an input in many aspects of school life, thereby making students a more viable part of the entire educational process. Mrs. Swift has given special priority to attendance problems since coming to Westport and has achieved some success in her effots to reduce absenteeism. Once again the team ap- proach comes into play. Parents are actively involved, along with school personnel, in phoning homes of absent students to verify absences. This re- quires a great deal of time and effort, but the benefits are expected to be great.
