In his four years at Westport, Joe worked faithfully and cheerfully, completing each task assigned to him. As one of the school's outstand- ing athletes, Joe excelled in both football and basketball. He served as treasurer of his eighth grade class and he was elected sergeant-at-arms in his sophomore year. He took part in many activities as a member of the Irving Literary Society and the W Club.
