I I CONSTANCE E. BURRAGE Miss Burrage, our home room teacher, is also a graduate of Weston High. She attended Radcliffe College and taught in three other schools before settling in Weston. As a dramatic coach, she was excellent and as a teacher—we all know that. She has helped us weather all the storms that blow up our senior year, and for the many other ways in which she has aided us, we thank her. .• ■ • •• ■ ' . WILLIAM FUNDERBURK “Bill,” skipper of the famous S. S. BUTTER¬ CUP, class president three out of our four years in high school, came with the April showers in 1918. He has been with us since the second grade. In his fourth year of football he was our fighting captain; he successfully took the part of “Big Hearted Her¬ bert” and for one happy evening he was our agile Lord High Chancellor. Model working is his hob¬ by. After his graduation from Dartmouth, he will be one of America’s greatest engineers—that, at least, is our prophecy. KENNETH STROM “KEN” When Kenneth joined our class in the eighth grade, we were at once fascinated by his good looks and charming smile. He has twice been class treas¬ urer, is now our vice-president, has played bas¬ ketball, and for the last two years has kept us in order. His artistic ability, shown by the decor¬ ations for our Junior Prom, should carry him far. THERESA BENOTTI An original member of our class, Theresa Be- notti, who was born July 18, 1918, has always taken a leading part in class and school affairs. As a ju¬ nior, she played the part of the queen in THE SWAN, and this year also appeared behind the foot¬ lights. She has been an enthusiastic member of the orchestra and is the highest ranking member of our class. Theresa plans to become an interpreter or linguist—being proficient in languages—and we feel sure she will have a happy, successful life. EUGENE POUTASSE Eugene was born November 19, 1918, and has been in our class during its twelve years of exist¬ ence. Although he stands high in his studies, he plays tennis, foot ball and hockey. His hobbies are making miniature ships and airplanes, camping, and arguing. Some day we expect to see Eugene a bright and shining light at Harvard. JANET SUMMER “Jan,” well-known for her laugh and her far-fetched puns, was born in Providence, Rhode Island, November 25, 1919, and joined our class in the third grade. She has acted successfully in two plays, THE SWAN—in which she played the lead, and BIG HEARTED HERBERT. She has been in the Glee Club for four years. Her hobbies are singing jazz, dancing, acting, and all sports. Her ambition is to be a blues singer. Smooth sail¬ ing to her! ELLEN RHOADES Ellen was born in Boston in 1919. As a mem¬ ber of the class since the second grade, she has contributed much to our musical reputation. She plays the bugle and the clarinet, and was the effi¬ cient and cheerful accompanist of the operetta, ALL AT SEA. She portrayed a witch in a scene from MACBETH, was in the cast of BIG HEARTED HERBERT, and did a fine piece of work in ENTER THE HERO. Ellen is returning for a post-gradu¬ ate course. After that she hopes to continue her study of music in college. ARMANDO BENOTTI “Art” was bon in Stony Brook, Weston, in 1915. He has been with us almost all of our school days. t “Art” is without doubt our outstanding athlete. He j has proudly earned his letters in football, bas- i ketball and baseball. For five years he has lent his deep voice to the Glee Club and taken part in many i musical productions. We shall always remember him as the high-stepping sergeant of police in ALL AT SEA. With his friendly personality, he is sure to succeed. IVY LEDERHOS Ivy Lederhos, born in 1918, first entered school in Weston in the fourth grade. She is a good golf player and enjoys horseback riding. She was in the Glee Club for two years, and was widely applauded for her fascinating “tap dance” which she performed at our Junior Prom. Ivy is going to Simmons next year where she will take a secre¬ tarial course. ALFRED WALKER A1 Walker, born October 20th, 1918, in Wor¬ cester, is our class wit. He came to Weston in the seventh grade. A1 was captain of the bas¬ ketball team in his senior year and played on the baseball team. He is noted for his dancing and his Scotch accent. Next year he plans to go to Cush¬ ing and then to Dartmouth. MIRIAM HIGGINS “Mim” has been in our midst for twelve years during which we have come to appreciate her sweet, demure ways. Besides attending to her studies and playing basketball, she has been a member of the Glee Club for four years. Her hobby is swimming. In future years she aspires to be a nurse; we can easily imagine the soothing calm which her presence will bring. ROY CARLSON Roy, born July 24, 1917, in North Easton, Massa¬ chusetts, has lived all over the country, and attend¬ ed fourteen schools. He came to Weston in 1934, and has stayed here longer than anywhere else. One might think Roy’s motto was “Variety is the spice of life,” but WE know better. Next year Roy will attend Harvard. BARBARA WHITNEY Barbara, otherwise known as “Babs”, was born March 4, 1919 in Newton. Ever since she en¬ tered our schools, she has shown much ability in her studies. Various activities in addition to her studies have claimed her time—field hockey, glee club, and dramatics. Her performances in ALL AT SEA, the operetta of ’36 and also in BIG HEARTED HERBERT, the senior play, won for her much applause. VIRGINIA PARKER “Ginnie” Parker was born July 25, 1918 in New Haven, Connecticut. After living for ten years in Waban, she moved to Weston. Ginnie is one of our best looking classmates as well as one of the best dancers. She is interested in skating, swimming, skiing, and horseback riding. She plans to study chemistry at Simmons. Is she hoping to be an assistant to Mr. Sawyer? ELINOR REID TRAVIS “Toots” is a native of Weston. She was born here February 19, 1919. She has contributed four fruitful years to the Glee Club taking major parts in the musicales. We enjoyed hearing her as “Ma¬ bel” in ALL AT SEA. Her friendly giggle will long be remembered by her classmates. We shall probably wear her clothes in the future, for she in¬ tends to be a clothes designer. ADAM McCLAY, JR. Adam, also known as “Abou,” was born July 21, 1918 in Weston. A noisy, friendly youngster, he entered the Weston schools at the age of six. He has taken an active part in sports, playing on both the baseball and football teams. He is planning to enter Northeastern University next fall, and we feel that he will be very successful in whatever he undertakes. He is still friendly and OCCASION¬ ALLY noigy. LOUISE MELLOR Louise was born June 12, 1918, but ,has been with us only during our senior year. She has sung in the Glee Club anl played in the orchestra. As the maid in BIG HEARTED HERBERT she pro¬ voked many a laugh. She enjoys all sports and draws as a hobby. Her cheery smile and many talents will take her far. BETTY JEAN KOON Betty was born April 4, 1917, at Greenville, Pennsylvania. She entered our midst as we began our Freshman year. Betty is one of the most at¬ tractive and popular members of our class. Her hobbies are dancing and swimming. In future she hopes to specialize in Home Economics. In the musicale of 1936 in which she was one of “The Three Little Maids,” she amused us all with her flirtatious fan. MAY HAMILTON May was born in Boston, April 15, 1919. She has always been one of our quietest and most helpful classmates and has ranked high in her studies. May intends to enter Katherine Gibbs Secretarial School next fall. We know such a friendly and efficient person is sure to succeed. NANCY WARE Nancy was born September 23, 1917, in Dela¬ ware. Before she entered Weston as a sophomore, she had lived in Russia for two years. Our star athlete, she has played hockey, basketball, and baseball; she loves swimming, and is also a very clever artist. She has sung in the Glee Club, and wishes to become an accomplished musician. Nan¬ cy’s versatility is overwhelming! RICHARD SIBLEY Born in Westboro, Massachusetts, March 29, 1918, Rip, the “caveman” of our class, has attended the Weston schools for eight years. Before that he attended schools in Northampton. “Rip” has been on the football team, and has done especially well in tumbling. It is his ambition to be a radio¬ engineer. This year he played the part of an under¬ standing father in BIG HEARTED HERBERT. GENEVA MAHER “Gene” was born in Rolinston, Maine, March 21, 1917. She entered Weston High in her fresh¬ man year. She has been a member of the Glee Club for four years and played on the girls’ basket¬ ball team. She likes tennis, and driving is her specialty. To this friendly and obliging member of our class we wish the best of success. HELEN POOLER Helen was born in Weston on October 20, 1918. As a classmate she has always been most popular with us all, and because of her humor has been the cause of many a laugh. This year Helen was the efficient property manager of the school play. Her favorite hobby is going on picnics, and she is always disappearing into the wide open spac¬ es where she can enjoy nature’s beauties. Helen is also a most ardent sport fan. Her ambition is to become a journalist. VIRGINIA BENOTTI Virginia was born in Kendal Green in 1918. She has been in the Glee Club for three years, loves all kinds of sports, but does best in field hock¬ ey. She does not know yet what she will do next year, but she is interested in hairdressing. Like all the other Benottis who have graduated from Weston, Virginia is a born athlete. EDITH RAND Born on July 17, 1918 in the city of Waltham, Edith entered school at the age of six years. Her favorite sports are skiing, skating, swimmihg, sailing and tennis. As one of the property mana¬ gers of the play BIG HEARTED HERBERT, she did a good job of exploration, producing just the old-fashioned ornaments needed for our stage set¬ ting. She plans to attend the Bouve School of Sim¬ mons College. Perhaps she wants to be qualified to take Miss Morse’s place. CLARENCE FLEETWOOD MOSHER, JR. Clarence was born in Waltham, May 17, 1918, but has been a member of our class since the first grade. He is known about school for his ever ready willingness to help and his beautiful tenor voice. In the operetta ALL AT SEA he paced the quarter deck singing: “I am the captain of the Pinafore.” Clarence has been a letterman on the baseball team for the past three years, and in ’35 he was manager of the football team. His only hobbies are bicycling and singing. His ambition is to sing m grand opera. LUCY McAULEY Lucy was born June 14, 1917 in Augusta, Maine. She entered the Weston High School two years ago. During this time she has made many friends. Her hob Wes are swimming and dancing; for two years she has played on the basketball team. English and history are her favorite studies. Lucy’s ambition is to become a child nurse. What ever line she finally enters, we all wish her the best of luck. J. ELLIS GAMMONS Ellis was born in Newtonville, Massachusetts, October 27, 1917. He attended school in Weston from the fifth to the seventh grades; left, but returned in his freshman year. This year he was the efficient stage manager of the school play. In class or out we find him the same—cheerful, talkative, ready for action. He is very much interested in railroads and ships. His other hobbies are photography and stamp col¬ lecting. Next year he plans to enter Burdett Business College. FRANCES MARTIN Neat, petite, and eighteen years old is Fran¬ ces Martin. Her hobbies are piano playing and tap dancing. She played basketball during her fresh¬ man and sophomore years. She has always been one of our best and quietest students and will surely be successful as a teacher of home econom¬ ics. We shall always remember her part in the Glee Club productions, particularly as one of the three little maids in ALL AT SEA. HARRISON SHERMAN Harrison, who was born November 30, 1916, began his school career in Weston. He has been a member of the Glee Club for three years. The sailor suit which he wore in the operetta “ALL AT SEA” was very becoming. He is fond of swim¬ ming and riding. Upon graduation he plans to attend the Diesel School. DOROTHY GRAVES Born in Revere, August 6,1918, Dorothy attend¬ ed the Revere and Williams Schools before coming to Weston, entering our class in the sixth grade. Dorothy has excelled in sports, being one of our best athletes. She has been a member of the Glee Club for three years. She hopes to attend the Sargent School, there learning to become a physi¬ cal education teacher. PHYLLIS TRAVIS Phyllis first breathed the air of Weston, March 31, 1917, and here she has always attended school. She has sung alto in the Glee Club, and last year held the all-important position of goalie on the girls’ hockey team. Another of her specialties is cooking. She intends to take a course in child nursing. We know she will take good care of her patients. JACK WILLIAMS Born in Portsmouth, England, October 18, 1918, Jackie has lost all trace of his English accent. His sweet soprano was the joy of our class until his voice changed. Then his actions changed, too, and a smart student soon become the teachers’ favor¬ ite companon after school. He loves to hunt and intends to be either an engineer or a gardener.
