What is the bane of every senior’s existence? What is the most infamous of all high school assignments? The Senior Theme, of course! Although, in the beginning, a certain author's works may seem interesting — or even amusing, it is inevitable that by the time you are through you will curse his name forever. In spite of all this, it is a fact that we will often be judged in life by how well we speak and write, making the lessons learned in English class among our most valuable. Language Department Parlez-vous francais? Habla Espanol? Any student who has taken a foreign language at Westmont should recognize at least one of these phrases. If the English teachers on the Hill think they have a tough job, maybe they should try trading places with one of the foreign language teachers. How would you like to teach French or Spanish to a student who can’t even speak English yet? Seriously though, I wouldn't want either job. Communicating with students in any language is never an easy task. Our foreign language instructors do try though. They know what they’re talking about, even if it does sound foreign to most of us.
