Westmont Athletic Director: William A. Askey You win some, you lose a few, and the rest you tie, seemed to be the theme of the Westmont Hilltop football team. Under the direction of head coach Paul Matsko, and backfield coach Emil Bolha, Westy came through with a 4-2-3 record, far below their hopes. H Plagued with pre-season and season injuries to Nunzio Tanase, one of the returning lettermen, Matsko relied mainly on Ev Custer, Tribune-Democrat 1968 Player Scholarship Award winner and his strong de- fensive team to balance what developed as the lowest scoring team since the 1961 season. With Doug Hand at the controls and Joe Skidel carrying the ball over, Westmont usually came through the game with at least one or more touchdowns. Mid-way through the season, Tanase returned to his halfback position, delighted with the perform- ance Gregg Conway had given as his replacement. Then two games later Skidel was taken out with a slioulder injury, and junior halfback Boyd Henry replaced him. Henry found new life in his job as he scored the first touchdown against Somerset, who had defeated Westmont 35-7 last year. With this new life, Westmont gained a measure of revenge with a 19-13 victory this season. The team tried hard the entire year, and they were recognized for their strenuous efforts. The sea- son's outcome may be attributed to a lot of things, but it was the spirit of the team that made it all possible.
