New experience in learning As new arrivals in the high school, the sophomores conform to traditions established by the upperclass- men. Now, during their year of adjustment, they must balance and coordinate the many aspects of their school life-extra-curricular, social, academic. With the quiet and leisurely life of a freshman becoming a fond memory, the sophomores discover that the reality of long, hard study dominates their new experience. Subjects intended to prepare them for life must be dealt with seriously. Late hours of typing themes and completing assignments are soon a habit rather than a possibility. Even required read- ing expands to astounding proportions. However, despite such a heavy burden of classroom-oriented work, the sophomores still supplement it with distinc- tive elective programs and enjoyable social activities. Confronted by strange, difficult problems that demand wisdom and mature judgment, the sopho- mores slowly develop familiarity with the responsibil- ities of high school life. They respond with resiliency to the challenge and prove their worth and leadership ability, as they follow the path of their predecessors. ii 1 I -l 4-5. - v A ..-L., MR.
